Lamda- any experience?

As the title says really, does anyone send their DC to lamda lessons? Are they in groups or individually? Do you think they help to build confidence? Do private schools prefer DC to have had them (especially coming from state).

TIA

My DS does LAmbda and he really enjoys it. It has given him extra confidence and he chose to do it with a friend. For lambda, you can chose to have pairs or single lessons and the exams are the same (so pairs will do a pairs grading and singles do a singles grading). The scripts get longer as they go on and pass higher grades and they are also asked to think more about their characters. Definitely worth doing for confidence and public speaking for my shyish boy. For private schools, it’s not something that particularly stands out, but when you are filling in the application forms and are asked to list their external achievements and grades, it’s always a good one to put in, but no more so than any music exam

My children did this from the age of 4 and I would absolutely recommend it. Unfortunately my daughter’s school doesn’t do it any more but my son (age 11) is still enjoying it. Gives confidence, clarity of speaking, and a different skill set that may come in handy later around creativity, thinking about what others feel etc. Not to mention the ability to memorise lots of words!

My DD has private 1:1 lessons with a local LAMDA teacher, unconnected with school. Some state schools offer group LAMDA lessons as a lunchtime or after school club which you have to pay for, but DD's school doesn't.

DD was already quite confident, but we could see a natural reticence creeping in as she got older (she's 9) and felt that LAMDA lessons would help her to develop her skills in speaking out and presenting, which would help her at school as well as for job interviews in the future.

She loves her LAMDA lessons, partly, I think, because she has half an hour of 1:1 time focussed on her. She's developed a really good relationship with her LAMDA teacher, who is also a mindfulness coach, and we feel that the lessons have wider benefits.

You might find some other relevant info if you search for LAMDA on the Extra-Curricular Activities board.

I'm 50 ish so I'm sure it's all changed. I did lessons all through my childhood and early teens. I enjoyed it and am sure it made me a confident communicator. My two sons would never have done it- one of them is fine and has learned the skills he needs anyway, the other doesn't have his brother's ability but isn't interested in those skills anyway.

My daughter does - she loves it.
