Hounslow (feltham) primary school help - reception 2021 intake

Hi Mners,

It’s the 1st September which means the admissions have started for reception intake next year. My son is due to start reception and I’ve been looking at schools up and down the borough for months now. Pre covid I emailed the schools I was interested in getting to know more about to see when their open days were. I’m not from the area nor have any mum friends so would like to see if there are any mums from the area who can give some information on what the schools are actually like (I’ve looked relentlessly at Ofsted reports etc- more after a feel of the ‘better’ schools)

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I’m getting anxious that out of the 8/9 potentials I havent been able to attend a single open day

Hello I’m from Hounslow I can help? What schools have you been looking at and what part of Hounslow are you

BusyBeeMummy1 · 04/09/2020 09:47

@ahsan thanks for reaching out. we are based in the Feltham area and annoyingly there are 2 ‘outstanding’ infant schools close by (Feltham Hill and Cardinal Road) but both of them are linked to poor junior schools. Other options I have are Hounslow Heath, Grove Road, Spring Grove, Chatsworth Primary and Wellington Primary. I know we are only allowed 6 choices but I aim to narrow these 7 to 6 once I have more info

Hounslow heath is good went there myself, Wellington was fantastic went there too heard spring grove and grove road were very good but no personal experience. Kid that went to grove road told me it was a very good school. Chatsworth my kids went there and didn't like it think they are the best but they are not like to push out sen children. Got a required improvement Ofsted and were named the worst school in hounslow moved at that point. Think consider all schools but chatsworth head was rubbish as well. Dont know much about the schools in feltham so can't mention them but my brother's daughter goes to feltham hill and he seems happy. Theres reach academy as well there suppose to really good so I'd look at that if I were you outstanding and goes all the way from primary to secondary

Hope that helps

If I lived in feltham I'd go for reach academy if I was you got great dinners they are outstanding and get very good results

BusyBeeMummy1 · 04/09/2020 11:13

@ahsan I have just checked Reach Academy and although it’s rated as outstanding I’m looking at the progress scores in Reading (average) Writing (Below Average) and Maths is also (average) so this is confusing me Confused the other schools I listed previously all have areas they score well above average or above average at least

Ok go for one of them then

Wellington used to be a lovely school when I went that was ages ago but I recommended you check it out

Hi BusyBeeMummy1 ,

I'm looking to move to the area and the 2-bed flat I'm looking at is in catchment for four outstanding primary schools! I feel spoilt for choice, but like you, I'm feeling that it's a daunting task too.

Have you looked at Edward Pauling? To me it's the most appealing, as the progress scores are good and it seems to be a smaller school (allowing teachers more time with each child).

All in all, I think Feltham offers great value for a first-time buyer like me with a small child, as the are is more affordable (and frankly more convenient) than other more expensive areas and the primary schools in particular seem great!

Good luck with your choice! G xx
