OK, this week I am looking for words that have an 'eeeee' sound at the end as in 'he', 'we', 'she'...

Must have an eeee sound at the end but spelt with just 1 'e'.

Examples (this is actually all we have)
He
She
We
Be
Me

Not correct
Only
Mummy
See
Sea
etc...

Are there any others...am thinking there must be some longer words. This is for 6yos so not too obscure

Ta in advance

you and natasha bedingfield both, twig

Mercy · 01/10/2007 21:34

Is this a lesson plan for 6 year olds?

Twiglett · 01/10/2007 21:35

hy-PER-bole-eee then? is it?

no I don't like that

I need comforting words now to soothe my furrowed brow

like discombobulate and flobble

ScaryMonsterStories · 01/10/2007 21:35

No it is homework for 6yos.

Each week they ask teh parents to help them find words with a particular phenome in...I am finding it dull 5 weeks into ter [yawn]

Tutter · 01/10/2007 21:36

high-purr-bull-eee

ScaryMonsterStories · 01/10/2007 21:37

It is hyper-bow(as in bow tie)-leee isn't it?

ScaryMonsterStories · 01/10/2007 21:37

but yes the per is more of a purrr

Twiglett · 01/10/2007 21:38

flobble / discombobulate

words that flow

ScaryMonsterStories · 01/10/2007 21:38

From wikkipedia

"Hyperbole (pronounced /haɪˈpɝbəli/ or "hy-PER-buh-lee"; "HY-per-bowl" is a mispronunciation)"

Tutter · 01/10/2007 21:40

yeh, chew on that natasha blardy bedingfield

i really really dislike her

Mercy · 01/10/2007 21:41

My dd's teacher is not doing anything even approaching this level.

I have been a bit concerned actually. Yr1 seemed ok, so far in Yr2 they have brought 2 library books home and one lot of spellings (most of which dd got wrong much to my surprise)

Mercy · 01/10/2007 21:43

Hi PER belee

ScaryMonsterStories · 01/10/2007 21:44

Whats annoying me is that the top sets (which DTDs are in) actually covered this last year [yawn], although didn't have to do this homework as part of it...

Twiglett · 01/10/2007 21:47

I am now rather scared that this kind of homework is coming home for 6 year olds

we don't even do spellings, the school has the belief that spellings come

DS is year 2 and I know the entire year is viewed as particularly ahead of the norm intake on academic ability

but seriously .. this is scary

Monkeybar · 01/10/2007 21:49

Ratatouile (sorry if that's spelt wrong)

ScaryMonsterStories · 01/10/2007 21:52

Twig, its not hard, its just dull.

It is not necessarily intended that the children find all these words. They seem to want the parents to help them write these lists which they then transfer to their 'word books' on Fridays. I think it is to increase their 'vocabulary' I guess.

Whats more it is bloody competative. There seems to be a prize for the longest list . You will get parents sending them in with Hyperbole and them not having a clue what it means. Of all the words on this thread I will probably only use about half as some are outside their vocab and defeat the object of the excercise IYSWIM.

I shall select words they do understand or which I can easily explain. I just need some more ideas IYSWIM.

ScaryMonsterStories · 01/10/2007 21:53

Its especially not hard when you have the whole of MN doing the hard work

Ellbell · 01/10/2007 21:56

Awww... gwan SMS... use 'synecdoche'!

Twig... I haven't been asked to do anything like this and dd1 is now in year 3. In year 2 it was just the usual reading and writing 'reviews' of what she'd read. So far in year 3 even less.

funnypeculiar · 01/10/2007 22:01

bugger, isn't synecdoche pronounced sigh-ner-dock?
Have been making an arse of myself with that one then .. which I obviously use in regular conversation

Mercy · 01/10/2007 22:05

Ellbell and Twiglett - phew, I was getting worried there for a bit.

ScaryMonsterStories · 01/10/2007 22:06

Apparently it is "si-NECK-de-key"
