Shirts vs Polos

Hello all

I've only ever bought polos for my girls' uniform but I wonder if shirts would be better - less warm, easier to iron and maybe also keep clean?

Anyone using shirts that would recommend them over polos? Or do they just keep with their own, different set of problems?

Thank you all and sorry for not replying sooner - I didn't get any notification people had replied, which is odd as I have my account set to send those!

My issue with polos is that they do need ironing - certainly the collar does. Both my girls get hot easily as well so I was wondering if shirts would be better for them in the summer. And if I have to iron their tops, might as well pick one that's easier to do so.

My youngest has to wear a new one every day - she seems unable to make it through the day without getting covered in stuff, whereas my oldest has always been ok on that front.

@viques yes, definitely short sleeves as I'd want them to wear them in summer - and both girls get hot easily as is...

Definitely short sleeved and M&S- ultra or their pure cotton (harder to iron though but good for DS3 sensitive skin).

All my DC need to wear a tie but I see M&S have the lovely rounded collar ones for girls which you could wear without a tie possibly?

@Puffalicious thanks for the recommendations. My girls don't have to wear ties so the rounded collars could work.

Newdaynewname yes but all those workers wearing polo shirts get the job done don't they. Infact most of the jobs you mentioned have been what has kept the country going during covid.
I am sorry but I am definitely TeamPolo.

@bookmum08 school uniform
is about as impractical as it gets though - flimsy shoes, skirts/dresses instead of practical trousers, I don’t think a plastic poloshirt is going to counteract that!
i do like uniform (at least the boys version), but don’t get poloshirts - they are not smart, and not comfortable (polycotton will be around for the next couple of hundred years though, so they’ll last...)

Newdaynewname well yes I agree. School uniform is -in general -completely impractical.
However I have never found a polo shirt uncomfortable though. More the opposite. But everyone is different. That's the thing. A work uniform is either for safety reasons or to identify to the public that someone is an member of staff or works for X company. As an adult if you really struggle with wearing polo shirts (actually struggle) you would think before going for that job if that was the uniform.
Personally I would prefer school uniform to not be compulsory. If a person wants to dress their kid in a shirt, blazer and tie then what's stopping them. But children are entitled to receive an education and what they wear while they are doing quite frankly should not matter. It doesn't matter if a child looks 'smart' as long as they are clean and their clothes are clean.

My eldest three all chose polo shirts up until around KS2. Dd1 then chose to wear shirts. Twin dd2 and ds who are both eight chose to carry on wearing polo shirts as the collars are more stretchy and they have less buttons. They also chose them because they are very active at school. I like them having polo shirts. Much easier to iron and I can replace them for less if they rip or tear them! (Both love their basketball and football). Dd3 will be starting school this year and wearing polos as she is also a bit of a mucky pup!
