School uniforms- would it be weird to buy cotton chino pants instead of usual school pants?

My son is starting reception at fall and I am looking into school uniforms. I really don’t like polyester pants, and I am wondering if it’d be too weird to buy cotton chino pants in school colour instead.

Some people recommended joggers - I would think the chance of a school allowing joggers is much lower than grey chinos! definitely check.

You can get jersey school trousers which are basically joggers without the cuff (also very easy to get on and off for small kids). M&S do them but probably other places too. Our school is just black or grey trousers, no jeans.

IMO secondary schools are much stricter about uniform than primaries. (All secondary schools in my town have a single uniform supplier)
I know of a boy who wore grey skinny jeans for the first couple of years of primary. (I thought they would be less comfortable than standard school trousers or shorts but maybe his parents were trying to avoid polyester/manmade materials)

DS wears these sort of 100% cotton ones from John Lewis or M&S. very hard wearing although they need a bit of ironing to look smart:

But this is also about looking the same as everyone else, hence the term uniform.

Unform policy in primaries is usually fairly strict, no trainers, no boots, plain black shoes etc.

Yes pants are generally underwear but us Northerners also say pants for trousers. I trained myself out of it when I went to uni!

We used to say fall hundreds of years ago but now say autumn, it was on the Suzie Dench podcast. I think it was the fall of the leaves.

In Ireland a lot of males wear jocks under their pants, and pants can be singular as in 'a pants'.

@SunflowerProsecco

OP just to let you know, in the UK, 'pants' are your underwear that you wear underneath your trousers and 'fall' means tripping over. We would say trousers and autumn. Chinos would not be suitable as school trousers. Have a look in supermarkets or high street shops (popular ones are Marks and Spencers, Next, John Lewis) for school trousers and you will see the usual sort of school uniform that you will need to purchase.
I'm pretty sure the op's message would be perfectly easy to understand for anyone outside the US who hasn't been living in a box for the past 30 years Hmm

... and in parts of Lancashire, they call trousers pants.
