I was looking in DD's reading record last night (yr1) and her teaching assistant had been listening to her read, and had written "DD is now understanding words and there meanings".

There?!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, it's "their".

I know I am a spelling/grammar Nazi but surely this is basic? For a TA to make that error I was a bit perturbed. Am I overreacting? I haven't mentioned it but a colleague at work suggested I correct the spelling in red pen

I'd correct it underneath (not in red though) similar to this:

I'm with you - it drives me nuts to see teachers make spelling and grammar mistakes.

Another bug bear is teachers saying 'haitch' - I've had to tell the boys that Miss X is wrong and it's 'aitch'. Argh!

We have a similar problem in Scotland with "J" - some people pronounce it "Jie" (to rhyme with "die"), which I hate, instead of "Jay".

Pointed that exact smelling pistake on a notice stuck to the class window to ds's TA last week.

Need to check today that they've changed it or I'll be a bit miffed.
