How much are you charged for "Out of School" care?

We know that we get a fantastic deal at our Out of School/Holiday Club serivce.

DH is now getting involved with its finances, so we thought to ask Mumsnet for waht others get charged for Out of School care or for the Holiday Club.

For reference, we get charged £30/week for 3-5 days a week. I think it is £10/day. That is for 3.15 to 5.45 and includes a snack. The servcie cover three primary schools, so ds is picked up from his and taken to their base at one of the other primary schools. Depending on staffing lelves, they will also pick up after an After School club (that's one of the options being considered - whether "different" pick-ups shold be charged for.

I think the Holiday Club costs £40/week, which includes all excusrsions (trips to Edinburgh Zoo, Millport, Science Centre, Inverary Castle, cinema - all over) and all we have to provide is a packed lunch and snack. That is from 8 to 5.45. It is planned to increase that to £50.

What do other Mumsnetters get charged?

After school care is included in DD's school fees. But if they do an activity club in that time is is between £3.50 an £4.50 a session, paid up front termly.

Before school breakfast club is £2 a day, paid upfront half termly I think.

No holiday care.

whoops · 25/09/2007 17:37

We are charged £1 per day for Breakfast club, £5 per day for after school club
The holiday club (nothing to do with the school) ds goes to is £16 per day but if you book a full week and the kids become members (£10 py) it works out at around £13.50 per day. The other holiday club he went to was £14 per day

scorpio1 · 25/09/2007 17:38

Breakfast club £3.50, from 8am.

After-school £7.50, until 6pm. includes 'tea'.

prettybird · 25/09/2007 17:43

Breakfast Club is free in Glasgow, run in all the schools from 8.15 to 8.45 (at which point they are decanted back in to the playground).

£2.25 for breakfast club. £5.50 for after school care.

harrisey · 25/09/2007 18:09

prettybird my kids have breakfast at home at about 7.15, but I know that they also quite often go and get some toast for free at the breakfast club when they get to school - as they are up so early for the 8am bus.

Nice Glasgow are spending our council tax on somehting my kids genuinely appreciate!

It is 6.50 for DDs school where the children are walked to another school.

Friend of mine paid £23 a day!!! and then was expected to pay half price in half term when no club was provided.

BellaLasagne · 25/09/2007 18:27

2.50 per hour for after school club, includes toast and squash, from 3.15-5.45, so 7.50 for whole session.

Holiday club only runs if there are enough places booked (so for example it isn't running this October half term) and costs £15/day plus packed lunch provided by me.

The After School Club (run by a daycare nursery) will pick children up from primaries, includes tea, and supervision until 6 pm. The charge is £10 no matter how long they stay.

hoxtonchick · 25/09/2007 18:56

our breakfast club is £1, i think it opens at 7.45 (we don't use it). after school club is £5 from 3.15 to 5.45. both are on site.

fireflyfairy2 · 25/09/2007 19:00

DDs after school club is from 2pm til 5pm & costs me £3.90. So £1.20 per hour which includes a snack. Soup or a ham roll is the usual.

She used to go 3 days a week, but it's down to 2 days now.

Over the holidays it is £8 per day from 9am to 5pm. This didn't include a snack as they took their own lunches & trips out were extra.

This club collects from the local primary schools, but unfortunately dd's is out of the area so a friend of mine takes her there when I am at uni.

They also teach them tin whistle & Irish language.

tbh even if they doubled the price I would still be happy to send dd there! They have some funding which is why they're abke to charge less than other places

fireflyfairy2 · 25/09/2007 19:01

We don't have a breakfast club Wish we did as it would come in very handy tomorrow! My sis drops dd off for me when I have an early uni start!

ChasingSquirrels · 25/09/2007 19:16

Mine will go to his old CM (who still has ds2) in the holidays. He was going before school, but I have re-jigged my hours a bit so he is only going in holidays now. She charges £3.25ph for him (but that is sibling rate, I pay £3.75 for ds2).
Your holiday club sounds good.

hana · 25/09/2007 19:18

£4 for b'fast club starts at 750 til 9
£10 for afterschool 310 - 6

doddle · 25/09/2007 20:08

07:30 - 09:00 Breakfast club - 50p

3.30-5.00 Clubs or Play Centre - 2 pounds

5.00 - 6.00 Play Plus - 3 pounds

MrsWeasley · 25/09/2007 20:16

A friends DC goes to an After school club at a sports centre but they hate it. I seem t think its about £3 a child from 3.15-4.30
They don't give them snacks at all (they used to offer squash and snack). Now they are offered tap water, if they want a snack they have to bring it themselves. There are kids there who cant even remember to pick up their lunch boxes from home let alone a snack too!

Fennel · 25/09/2007 20:18

Our after school club at our previous school was £5 for 3 hours (3pm-6pm). This school is smaller so the club costs a bit more, £3 per hour. Both include a snack.

Holiday club £11 a day. not including lunch or excursions but including snacks and drinks.

1dilemma · 25/09/2007 23:30

Ours is fab
central London
gate money 2 pounds a week can drop them off 15 minutes early (makes all the difference for dh getting to work on time!!) someone watches them makes sure they don't leave etc. I have no idea what this is all about but must happen with schools permission since in their grounds!
after school 5.95 a day 2.5 hours a healthy snack and lots of activities
my ds LOVES his after school club quite prefers it to school!!
holiday club not sure (just over 20 pounds a day I think might be a bit extra for trips)

islandofsodor · 25/09/2007 23:38

Dd is in an independant school so before and after school care (including activity clubs) is free until 5.15pm. Between 5.15pm and 5.45pm it is a £2 charge.

prettybird · 26/09/2007 12:12

Ds also loves his afterschool club - gets pissed off if we pick him early without prior notice.

I think our holiday club is going up to £50/week - but since that includes all excursions, it is still tremendous value.

Is it possible to claim tax credits for after-school care? If so, how much?

OP posts:
prettybird · 26/09/2007 12:44

So it looks like £30/week is a good deal (althugh not the cheapest), so it could go up a bit if it needed to.

If people can also claim tax credits, then presumably that would mitigate some of the rise. (Can anyone answer me re tax credits - I can't claim them, so I don't know the process).

I'd forgotten to mention that if you use the Holiday Club in the summer, you also need to pay a £10/week retention fee for those weeks you don't go (eg while you youursevles are off on holiday). Not sure what happens if you choose not to book in to the Holiday Club at all over the summer.

Think it is £20 for a single full day (eg for INSET days) - not sure though - I'll need to check with dh.
