Mixed age bubble

Can anyone reassure my about composite classes please? I know it must be the norm in rural areas, but I've not come across it personally.

My reception aged DC is in a bubble with reception to year 3. They are finding it very tiring as they believe they are doing year 3 work (I know this isn't the case!).

How do composite classes work in practice please?

My Bubble is keyworkers R to Yr5. It is the hardest group to keep happy but we are trying.

It is hard for the little ones because they are used to free flow in EYFS whereas now they are sitting at desks.

The activities are different for each year group in the mornings then we are doing something art/stem that they can all access in the afternoons.

The only way of knowing is to ask your school. I’m a teacher and all of my teacher-friends at different schools are running things differently.

Thank you both. It's a good point that eyfs children aren't used to sitting at desks.

I know the school is busy making plans so I don't want to bother them, just looking for reassurance that it can work on certain circumstances eg maybe experience from people who have been educated in mixed class sizes, or have their children in them either now or previously. I imagine this is only very temporary.

It’s such a small portion of time. Just ask them. If it’s anything like my school your sane question will be well received in amongst the deluge of weird and wonderful questions.

Our school has kept the reception bubble separate from the others as it's hard for them to socially distance. But years 1-6 are all mixed with a max 10 in each bubble. They aren't really learning at the minute, more of a childcare setting and having fun which I'm grateful for as it's means I can get back to work.

Forgot to say, I was worried about them been in mixed classes and not really having friends with them, but luckily they have kept siblings together so at least they have each other, but I've found the oldest ones tend to help look after the little ones and it's worked out fab x
