One of dd friends mum told me her dd is going to independent school after the summer. There are a number of kids from school who will be taking a similar route. Bit anecdotal but is anyone else seeing the same. Its quite mc history of kids disappearing off in p6 to go private. Just a bit concerned that school will go downhill if there is an exodus.

I think where schools have not provided what parents expected, and there are lots of parents with high disposable incomes, (not well-to-do!) they may well be looking at private schools. Not all private schools will have vacancies and anyone concerned about redundancy or pay cuts will not move DC however well off they appear now.

Yes, if the bightest leave, then it is not great for the school. However, they will not worry too much until their finances are cut and they have to make a teacher or two redundant. The virus has certainly sorted out schools that are excellent and those that are run by teaching unions. Some parents will always want the former.

I’m seriously considering an online school for DS(yr7).

His current school haven’t provided any online teaching and due to his SEN he is really struggling to access the work they have set. DS has an EHCP which is currently being reviewed and I’m wondering whether I should name an online school so he can be taught a way which will suit his learning style, as he has an EHCP the council would potentially pay for it (with a bit of a battle). DS has ASD and I’m not sure how he’ll cope in his large comp school after being out of it so long.

I’m hearing many more leaving private and trying to enter state than the other way round and we are in a mc area.

I think plenty of parents are worried about a drop in income or redundancy. If you are in a well paid state job you probably don’t have these concerns, eg doctor or well paid civil servant. If you are scraping fees together and you are worried about income, I’ve no doubt you will be concerned about fees. Those with bomb proof incomes can look for private and don’t forget grandparents pay up
too. That’s fairly common.
