Me too tired 😔

@SJa11

I would like to get the headteacher a Union Jack cushion is that OTT
No, just don’t.

I’m not sure we would be allowed to accept gifts this year as they don’t want kids bringing anything into school. And a teacher taking home something that has come from a pupil’s house is going to be frowned on in our school im fairly sure. I know it’s not a risk really but it will contravene the infection control protocols that have been set up.

My eldest is in year 1 so I only have one year to go on, but last year one of the more efficient parents organised a whip round and got a personalised travel mug, bunch of flowers and a voucher for the reception class teachers and TAs. The teachers got over £100 each so it must have been popular. If she does it again this year I'll go in with that, if not they'll get fancy soap or gin but I'll check gifts are okay first. I'm getting the headmaster whisky and a card, he's been fantastic throughout. I asked my sister what teachers really want (she was one for years)and she said 'gin and pritt sticks'!

I usually do but won’t be this year. I feel very let down by the school.

I’m another in this category. I was giving them the benefit of the doubt but having spoken to the HT I’m appalled by her attitude to the children (R and Y2-5) who aren’t back.

The individual class teachers have done a pretty minimal job throughout and the report cards (only up to 20 March with areas to work on that have already been covered and fixed in pre-June lockdown work that was ‘marked’) were the final straw.

Pur teachers are getting way bigger present than normal.
For sure I had to really step up but they hosted virtual classes every day. I uploaded homework and they marked it.
I let them miss a few in the past free days so I could take them for a good long hike, now we're allowed. Both teachers said it was fantastic to get them out and to have fun.
The kids have done so many projects and there were days I wanted to cry with the work but the praise they got really pushed them to do their best. In fact they seem to have really progressed at home.
Not all the schools are doing what ours is...I m so impressed with the school and teachers

Just don’t bother.

We are very fortunate and have salaries guaranteed.

Many families are not in the same financial position especially in the current climate.

An email to school is always appreciated. More than chocolate, wine and biscuits.

Only yesterday, I was wondering what teachers do with their mammoth collections of Best Teacher mugs and Best Teacher key rings. After a few years of teaching they must have amassed hundreds of them.

SparkyBlue · 20/06/2020 17:33

We had a time slot given to us to go in and collect anything that the children had left behind like crafts and some workbooks and stationery as the school year finishes officially next week so we brought a gift in for then teacher then. Judging by the amount of gift bags on her desk most people seemed to have dropped in something. I didn't send anything into my sons pre school teacher as the pre school had been shut since March so I wouldn't have an opportunity to see her

Kokapetl · 20/06/2020 21:34

Our class is clubbing together to get flowers delivered to the teachers. It's a scheme that means they get flowers every week or month it something, for a few months so not loads all at once.

LavenderLilacTree · 21/06/2020 22:56

Lovely though that would be I am not sure teachers would be able to accept anything from a child's home, it might pass on the virus it's worth checking.

pinkazing · 21/06/2020 23:06

I sent in some bottles of hand lotions (to help them deal with the nasty sanitising stuff) and a note to thank the headteacher and her amazing team. It went down really well. So I’m done for this year.

The individual class teachers have done a pretty minimal job throughout and the report cards (only up to 20 March with areas to work on that have already been covered and fixed in pre-June lockdown work that was ‘marked’) were the final straw.

Teachers can only comment on where children were when schools closed. If a child was working towards age expected in March, even if they have completed all set work to an exceptional standard during the closure, the teacher does not know if the work was completed independently, so cannot say what level the child is at now.

If a child was working towards age expected in March, even if they have completed all set work to an exceptional standard during the closure, the teacher does not know if the work was completed independently, so cannot say what level the child is at now.

The teachers were allegedly marking the work each day until 1 June via Google Classroom. It’s ludicrous to say they couldn’t see progress through the work handed in when it comes to things like eg letter formation (one of the comments we had).

Or if they honestly weren’t sure, leave those things out and give them different things to work on.

‘Please work on things I know you’ve already worked on’ is demotivating and has added to my child’s feeling that the school doesn’t care about the kids at home any more (his words). They’ve completely detached apart from uploads. Individually, any of these things could be explained away. Cumulatively it’s shit and I feel very let down.

(Before anyone comments sarkily, yes I’ve told this to the school, in constructive terms. Excuses and platitudes in response. Not bothered about the wellbeing of the kids at home.)

oceany · 22/06/2020 15:58

I don't normally bother, but we've had one teacher go above and beyond and I'd like to do something for her. I'm just mulling over how to do it without any germ issues...

SJa11 · 22/06/2020 20:21

I have decided to give online card with a gift card attached to it sent to the emails
