Evening,

Is there anyone out there who is clued up on the private schooling system, i.e ways of getting your child in when you do not have the means financially. I know about scholarships and bursaries, but are there any tips you have?

Thanks so much xx

It will really depend on your school.
Ours for example only gives (substantial) fee reductions to children who are already in the school, and where parents had a drop in income outside their control.
Others give stipends to gifted/talented kids, sporty kids, drama etc. Size of the stipend varies a lot as well.

It really depends on the school. Look at the website of your local ones and contact the bursar for information. Often more scholarships/bursaries available for secondary than primary. Most schools will top up a scholarship with a bursary, depending on parental income, other schools will offer bursaries independently of scholarships, but DC will still need to pass the entrance exam and win a place. Which schools are you interested in?

bursaries are usually senior only and unlikely to be 100%. Can you afford half fees? If so and your child is in primary start putting half fees in the bank and then you can send them in secondary with the money you've saved topped up from earnings.
