Books for less confident readers

I’m looking for book suggestions for less confident readers. The picture books are not enough of a challenge now, but books like Captain Underpants / Roald Dahl etc are too hard.

What books did your kids read when they first moved from picture books to books with chapters? His reading age is around 6.

So far the only ones that seem pitched right are The Horrid Henry early reader books. Any suggestions would be welcomed!

We've followed the Usbourne Reading Library all the way through. They are the first books my son felt able to read independently. We're currently on the box set that is red/blue. You can look up what ORT book bank equivalents are n the Usbourne website.

He's also a big fan of Storey Treehouse series. A really mix of cartoons/text. I'd order the first one, it can always be kept aside if it's too challenging for now.

Thanks ritzbiscuits.

I’d not heard of the Storey Treehouse books but they look just like the sort of books he would love. I’ll get one of those and see how he gets on.
