September 2020 intake. Whatever is it going to be like?

DD is due to start school in September and while I fully appreciate that schools and teachers are rushed off their feet with children returning now, I’m so worried about what it’s going to be like for reception starters in September. DD has no idea about social distancing, is very shy and has some anxieties (she is adopted). I can’t imagine how teachers are going to manage settling all of the new little ones in while trying to social distance. I feel so sorry for them too. There are no plans for settling in sessions or visits for obvious reasons. If I could defer her I would jump at the chance but have no possibility of that. Wondered what others thought?

Could you keep her home for a year? They don't have to legally start until year 1. Or home school her?

In a way, I think it will be easier for the new starters because they won't know any different. Hopefully, the teething problems will be sorted out now and over the summer and by September things will be running relatively smoothly. They'll enter school and social distancing will be the norm, they'll just roll with it. It will be more upsetting for the little ones who have been to school, then had all this time off and then gone back to a completely different setup.

I think you will need to trust the teachers and school. In sure once they are back after half term schools will be next tackling transition for all year groups including new starters but it's all a bit planning for the unknown.

I agree with PP that the new intake won't know any different.

My sen DD is in reception and has gone from normal eyfs reception. To lockdown fairly relaxed school and is now going back to strict bubbles and different rules. Eventually normal school will be back. That's a hell of a lot for a 5 year old to cope with in the space of a year.

@NuffSaidSam that is not technically correct, it depends when their birthday is
