What is the education provision for rec3ption and year one children in your child’s school from June 1?

I am interested to find out how my Dd’s school compares to others in what they will be offering to reception and year one children from the return date after June 1. We have been offered bubbles of 15 with an ‘adult’ supervising (probably a teaching assistant) whilst they follow the remote schooling provision on a tablet. Obviously some of this is necessary to meet goverment requirements, so they must stay within the same bubble all day and not mix with other bubbles which I am happy with. However, I am concerned about the idea of 15 of them following online/video lessons with one ‘adult’ supervising and doubtful this will enable much learning to take place. Is this what other schools are doing? It feels to me like nothing more than childcare to free up the parents to work (like the keyworker provision in many schools over the past few weeks). I thought the intention was to get young children back in the classroom because they needed the teaching as well as the socialisation or are they just supposed to be getting socialisation?

Our school are staggering opening and have 10 children or less to each year group. Reception started today and will be supervised while undertaking the same work the others have at home. It’s just childcare. The head said they wouldn’t be teaching them anything different to home school work as they don’t want to have a gap in what the children know when they start back as normal.

Ours a very clearly moving on with the curriculum. parents have been informed that if they choose not to send their children, they are responsible for their education and to ensure children are not falling behind.

From tomorrow, kids back in bubbles of 10 maximum with 3 staff per bubble (two teachers and a TA) for reception and Yr1 and two for year 6. Year 6 to continue with a lot of their work via Teams to include those not returning, but Yr1 and reception to return to normal teaching. Full days but an early finish on Fridays.

It is an independent prep with a linked senior school so they are fortunate that they can pull in extra staff from the senior school plus have a lot of specialist subject teachers and games staff who can be called on too.

15 children were eligible to attend in my son's bubble. Eight have taken up the provision. Two very experienced, competent TAs who have been at the school for 10+ yrs are working with his bubble, he seems to be learning in a group of four. While I would have preferred the full 15 to attend for the fun factor, I can't help but think he's going to be at an advantage in educationally. It's only day two but looking at what they say they're covering on Tapestry, it's a hell of a lot of work. Spoke to our head this morning, she said the only issue she's had so far is some parents not getting their children there on time (9:15/ 9:30! not exactly early). She needs them there at the right time so they can wash hands and get straight into lesson time. She seems to be taking it seriously. Definitely doesn't sound like childcare.

Year 6 in bubbles of 15 with one teacher from the 8th June, year 1 in bubbles of 8 with a teacher and a TA from June 15th, both 5 days a week but reduced 5 hour days. No idea how they’ll cope when the whole school is supposed to be back.

As far as I understand it will be normal teaching but online provision still provided for those not coming back / in isolation

@myself2020 is yours a state or independent school? If state, what do they intend to do when the delinquent parents send their children back in September or January?

Finally heard midnight on Thursday. Class R from 9th, Class 1 from 15th. Very negative, School don't want to open and staff have requested to wear masks, gloves and visors (how they can expect to keep a visor on all day, I don't know. They don't wear any around keyworker bubble). Staff and children expected to social distance even in bubbles, early close and finish. Just doing set remote learning whilst in School.

Our school is full of keyworker children there were too many to allow any of the other children to go back. I'm a keyworker and mine went back today they are in a bubble together as they are twins a mixed year 5&6 class there were only 6 in their bubble including them. They are doing maths and English and pe so far. They also get a hot school meal.
