Calling all primary teachers or creative people, need help with assembly for Ofsted!

Hi all,

We have an Ofsted next week on Tuesday and Wednesday and it just so happens that it is my turn to do assembly on the weds
I hate doing assemblies at the best of times, so need some ideas to create a short, engaging and creative assembly for Key stage 2 children (7-11 years old).
The theme for the week is choices and most of the children find it difficult to sustain concentration (some are very challenging!)
Please help!

Possible ideas here and here. If they are no good, you may find other stuff on the sites. Also the SEAL resources often have good assembly ideas.....

used to hate it too only once a term but terrifying in asecondary school

have no ideas i'm afraid apart from the used as nauseam idea of privelege too much choice etc relative to african children etc etc

e.g. dont want to mention the c word too soon but how many of them have already been rifling throught the argos catalogue pestering for stuff for the c word

making the right choice (dreaded role plays mightbe necessary and dont know if 9yr olds can pull this off)of classroom bullying scenario or whatever

er er er

maybe a tv quiz show with some scenarios with solutions for preprepared volunteers to read out pulled out of an envelope
you have left your pe kit on the bus
do you
a) nick someone elses
b) go to office ask them to ring your mum
c) go home on your own to get it

you find £10 in the playground
a) give it to your nice form teacher and tell her to go and buy a nice bottle of wine with it
b) spend it on cigarettes
c) log on to the school's computer and buy something on ebay

etc etc etc

these are utterly useless ...will have aglass of wine and see if anything better comes up

more ideas here - there is one on 'choices', although experiment with clicking as the site seems a bit skewed.....

This one says KS3 but I adapted it for KS4 and am sure it could be adapted for primary too. It went down well with Year 11.

This one could be fun too, though again it says it's for KS3.

Thanks to all of you. I'm going to have a good look through all these ideas now. I've had a quick glance, like the idea of munching chocolate in assembly!! They may get a little over excitied by chocolate flying everywhere though.
Any ideas of music to enter/exit too?

Sorry, I'm only a parent and not a teacher but I like samanthar's idea of a TV quiz show. Last year dd's Year 5 class replicated a bit of The Apprentice in thier assembly which went down well. You could perhaps replicate a quiz from Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway show, as I'm sure ALL the kids watch it and it would amuse everyone - to make it funnier, they could invite teachers up to answer the 'choices' questions and have two children play Ant and Dec...

I think i will use the quiz idea from samanthar. I could get three members of staff to be the contestants and have one of them always making the wrong choice and discuss the consequences, e.g. nicking someone elses PE kit etc.

Could be great fun. Please add more ideas for questions and multiple choice answers.

oh no tooooo much responsbility now..hope it works dont know how PSHEy ......er not sure thats a good adjective.... you want it to be

and am guessing it cant be too grown up in terms of themes as it covers an age spread....
let us know what you come up with and if yr colleagues can pull it off!!

choose a senior person to make the wrong choice and get them to speak youth speak peppered wiv(sic) 'inits' you just want a few laughs thats all..and if that requires the deputy head to wear a hoody then so be it!!

Just wanted to say thanks. Assembly went well , although the inspectors didn't come to watch .
The children and the other staff actually enjoyed it. Ofsted is over and it went fine, but I still don't like doing assemblies though.
