After school childcare

We are happy and relieved to have been offered our first choice of primary school for September. Obviously something else has moved seemlessly into the worry void this good news created. I've been in touch with the afterschool club and they said spaces are very limited. They are contacting the parents who use it currently to see if they still need it then will send out registration packs once they know what spaces they have. First come first served. I have a 2nd option that I can apply for now, they will collect DD from the school and take her to a place nearby. I would much, much prefer the on site option. If I apply for my second option I have to agree to pay the first terms fees, whether I use the place or not. I can't really just apply for it to hold the place in case I don't get a place at the on site one. I'm absolutely torn about whether to just go for the second, less preferred option so that I know it's sorted or hold my nerve for a few weeks and risk not getting a space anywhere. I also need to put in a change of hours request at work and I want to do it as soon as possible and get in before the other woman who has a child starting school. My DH is worried about his job though and wants me to hold off until after lockdown and see how secure his job is. If he loses it I'd want to request to go full time.

I don't know why I'm posting really. DH doesn't really seem interested in talking about it but I couldn't sleep for throwing options around in my head. It never bloody ends does it?

How much are the fees for the term for the off-site place?

How easy is it to get a place at 2nd choice?
If they are not oversubscribed, I'd sit it out. If not apply for both & pay a small deposit for no2 and try to hold on to your money until you know about 1st choice.

I think it works out around £600 for us.

They are both oversubscribed. The second option is very easy to get to and in some ways more convenient. I just feel like it will be better for DD to stay on site. She will already be knackered getting used to school and I'm just a bit worried that having to walk to another place will be too much for her rather than just staying put.

... then go with 2nd option. See how it goes. After school care can be like rocking horse shit. Don't wait for something that may be happening...
But then I am on the cautious side of things.

You can look at the 2nd option another way, that getting out of school for a walk and a change of scenery will actually be beneficial to her at the end of the day?

Thank you, this has been helpful. I think I will send an application for option 2, a bird in the hand and all that. It might mean I can sleep at night.

I have submitted my application for option 2 so just wait and see now. I feel better for having done something towards sorting it.
I might do my change of hours request next week.
