Has anyone come across any online lessons or tutorials? Please share if so..........

The school have just provided us with textbooks! DS struggles to stay engaged and I'm really worried.

Totally stuck on how to teach maths (it's been 30 years!) Would rather not spend Sunday night relearning how to multiply fractions! Any advice?!

Racheyg · 22/03/2020 17:35

How old is he??

Have you tried www.twinkl.co.uk/

Both my ds's have lots of work to keep them busy from the school which I have no idea how to fit it in around me working.

Racheyg · 22/03/2020 17:36

Also the works have great work books for about £4

WhenSallyMetHarry · 22/03/2020 17:44

DS is in year 5...not the time for school to shut!!!

Thanks for TWINKL link I will have a look. Time for me to get my head into fractions! Luckily not working at the moment but still struggling to think how to make sure they actually work over next few weeks / months?! So worried they will fall behind where they should be... :(

Good luck with your ds's - great that the school has set them lots of work.

Give me some time and I'll pull up some links for you. I'm a tutor and have been remote teaching this week using video conferencing. I'm working tomorrow morning so will come back to this thread then

From the home ed community.

Lelivre · 22/03/2020 18:02

Khan academy or this for your maths issues
whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/

drspouse · 22/03/2020 18:06

Not all of these are free, but we like
readingchest.co.uk - books by post, you choose a reading band and they provide.
Doodle Maths (and English) - very clever graded system to make sure materials are at the right level. 7 day free trial.
We really prefer workbooks/printouts (my DS has been off school/doing little at school intermittently). For handwriting, we like Letts (it's more systematic than many). For maths, the Priddy wipe clean ones are good.
The free Oxford Owl books are good too but my DCs took longer to go through the lower bands than the free books allow.

Helimummy1 · 22/03/2020 18:54

We got an email from DS's school on Friday and they are recommending Atom Learning's free online lessons which cover eng, math, vr nvr. You don't need to pay anything. Free tutorials is great news for us! Like you I don't fancy learning Maths again...had enough trouble the first time round!

DS did the VR and NVR lessons this weekend and although the site seemed to crash momentarily the teacher was AMAZING and they set exercises after the lesson was finished and I received some feedback after that. If you've got kids in Y5 /6 I'd highly recommend!

Duckchick · 22/03/2020 19:08

I don't know what curriculum your school uses, but ours uses white rose maths. Normally all you get for free is the scheme of learning. However, they seem to be doing home learning to help with the school closures. They have daily video lessons plus activities for each year from reception to year 8, see whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/ .

nocciola · 23/03/2020 18:51

Hi

Twinkl have set up free access for parents area to help during the covid 19 period. Lots of other sites are doing similar, e g reading eggs and ttrockstars etc. There should be a code that you can use to access it. If you cant get on without it. Message me and I'll send you one! Good luck!
