KS2 Sats - Tense!

ThunderR0ad78 · 07/03/2020 06:43

My son is prepping for KS2 Sats. However is really struggling with tense - ie past & present tense beyond the basic understanding!

Has anybody found a good resource to help teach him:

Simple present
Present progressive
Present perfect

Simple past
Past progressive
Past perfect

I have googled loads but nothing seems to properly explain what these are with ways to test his understanding! Please help!

TIA!

There may be help on BBC Bitesize for KS2 English. Failing that, WH Smith sells study and revision books for SATS.

I've had to google present and past progressive, but then I've only had a 1950s grammar school education.

Thanks for the replies! I've googled but can't make any sense of it! Confused

All the tenses on one page and a useful way to teach them.

The trick I taught my Year 6 class was to remember this -
Present perfect- has or have
Past perfect - had

Present progressive: am-ing is-ing and are-ing
Past progressive: was-ing and were-ing
Future: will be- ing

Sorry I'm not sure that translates well written down! We used to recite these tricks.

The simple is the one they tend to use all the time so it's the easy version (I ran, I run, I will run)
