Hi All, We are moving to the area and are trying to decide over Copthorne Prep or Lingfield college for our 2 young boys. Does anyone have any recent experience of these two schools? Any feedback would be appreciated - its so difficult to make a decision just from looking around. Thanks x

Hi,

my two son went to Lingfield Prep from Nursery. They had a terrible experience. The Nursery teacher was a nasty piece of work. I am now hearing over time how she treated my son so badly. He was so scared when he was a toddler that he was unable to tell me exactly what happened. He started seeing a child psychiatrist to unravel what had fully happened to him. He was so traumatised, it triggered a stutter.
Unfortunately this behaviour was mirrored by other teachers and assistants in year one.
(All information has been sent to the Department of Education). When I wrote a letter of complaint to the Head Master, he dismissed my concerns as “smoke and mirrors.” He obviously wasn’t interested in the complaint or how my son was treated. More interested in finances.
As it turns out, there were many complaints against the school and he was batting them off.
I requested a Subject Access Request and it was noted that my son was academically in the bottom five percent! The psychiatrist mentioned that children who do not feel safe or are unhappy in school are unable to learn in that type of environment.

We pulled our children out and placed them into an incredibly great school which is very nurturing and kind.

Fast forward a few years since being under the care of a fantastic school in Pease Pottage, my son has been accepted in to one of the top schools in England. This school wrote to us mentioning that my son had achieved a great score in maths. They had gone to great lengths to get to know my son in all aspects of academia and sport. I was blown away. They really understood him.
My other son is just starting the process of senior school.

i can’t emphasise enough that we have to be able to read our young children, even if they are unable to communicate what is happening to them. If they have stomach ache every morning before school this is an anxiety issue. If they stop speaking it’s not because they don’t want to talk, it’s that they are shutting down from their school environment . Don’t let any teacher tell you this is normal! ITS NOT!
Thankfully my sons are really happy now but it was quite a journey!
