Teacher Training and name change

Hi everyone,

I’m new here so hoping I’m doing this right. I just wanted to run something past you. I’m starting teacher training in September and I don’t want to be known as my married name ‘Mrs Paine’ all day. Nothing against my husband, I’ve never been keen on it funnily enough 😉 and it just sounds a bit harsh when teaching little ones. Do you think I could either double barrel my maiden name with married name (to take the edge off) or go by my maiden name just for work? Thank you.

You’re overthinking this. It’s your name. Just go with it.

I think Mrs Paine is fine, it's a pretty normal surname and the kids/parents wont think twice.
However if you prefer to go by your maiden name at work theres no reason why you can't.

You don't need permission for any of this.

Just request you're known by your maiden name. I started a new job a half-term before I got married but used my married name from the beginning to save people getting used to me by another name. All my DBS and ID things and application were in my maiden name.

Just tell the school which name you'd like to be known as.

Ha ha! ‘Mrs Paine’ is a gift as a teacher. Embrace it and make sure you’re a step ahead of the kids with the jokes.

Having said that.....my maiden name rhymed with something rude. The kids never, never seemed to pick up on it. Disappointing.
