Tutor - Kensington and Chelsea

So when discussing tutors to prepare for the 7+ most parents pretend they never heard you! I see why they are protective over tutors but it makes it so hard to even know where to start looking.

Does anybody have any good recommendations for a tutor who prepares for the 7+ in or near Kensington and Chelsea?

Hello what schools are you targeting and which school is your Children attending?

We did 7 + for my daughter last year. You can pm me if you want.

You don't need a tutor!! My child just passed 7+ for two very competitive prep schools in West London. You need to work with them consistently but in small chunks from summer term of year 1 using the well known work books such as Bond papers, CGP and some Letts books. Work through the summer holidays before Year 2 too with the aim of finishing Bond 6-7 yr books by Autumn half term and after that start doing some timed sample papers at weekends right through until the actual 7+ exams. Spend time with the child on working through areas that they maybe making mistakes, etc. Get them writing 1 page stories in neat handwriting under time pressure... Tutors will not deliver what you as a parent can do...

@Lolakath19

My son attends an academic pre prep in west London. The schools we want him to sit exams for are St Paul's and Westminster. I will pm you. Would be great to learn more about your journey.

@Fancythat2015

Thank you for your advice. I work with him already as he is the kind of kid who brings activities and workbooks to me and asks me to work with him on them.

I just struggle with the level of work I should be expecting of him. He is a few months short of five and already knows his 2,10, 11 times table, bonds of 10, double digit additions and subtractions, he is on level 7 on the oxford reading tree level. But how far do I go? Do I keep going as I have at his pace?

I find the Bond books and other books confusing as there are so many. What level shall I start at? What should be my starter pack?

I agree with @Fancythat2015 that you definitely dont need to tutor especially since your child seems way ahead of his Year. Although I would suggest you try and work up to the 7-8 year level for Bond assessment papers, by the time you approach the 7+ assessments. the bond books are grouped by age (for e.g. Bond 11+ Maths comes in variations of age 5-6, 6-7, 7-8 etc.) other brands such as Letts, CGP either follow age or Year (Year 1/2 etc.) Select branches of Waterstones, Ryman, and also Hatchards at Piccadilly have a good selection of these workbooks. you could visit them and browse to calibrate level. we started with Bond books of the 5-6 level when my daughter was 5 years old, but those were quite easy for her and we moved on to the 6-7 level fairly soon.

You should also download sample papers available on the websites of the schools you plan to apply to, and other similar schools which run a 7+ process. Some companies like exampapersplus apparently also offer mock 7+ tests which you could consider to simulate the exam environment for your child (we didnt try this).

All the best.
