Choose A Private School For A Super Active Child

Hi ladies,

I have a very active daughter. 2 and a bit at the moment. Like all mums think our own kids are smart, I do too. I think she is very bright and advanced. However, she just can't stop doing things. I have to give her things to play wherever and whenever. Even when she's watching tv, she has to do what the characters do on tv.

We are choosing a private school for her. I registered her at a Montessori from 3+ and also wish to register her to some famous 4+ selective private schools. I guess that most selective private schools prefer kids can sit and learn hence my daughter isn't this kind, I don't really expect she can get in any of them. The Montessori I registered for her is relatively new and on top of that we are not impressed after a couple of visits.

Ladies, do you have experiences or have you heard any private schools that selective/non selective that like super active kids?

Thank you very much ladies.

xx

She might get into a super selective school if she’s able. However, if she grows up active and having a physical learning style, she might prefer more of a mixed ability school. I’d also choose somewhere sporty with nice grounds to run around in.

Where do you live? Schools (state and private) want a mix of personalities - an entire class of one personality type would be exhausting.

It’s worth beating in mind that your child is still only 2. At this age, mine were both prone to lying face down on the pavement howling at perceived injustices. So if she won’t sit down nicely now it doesn’t mean that she won’t when she is four.

If you are looking at private schools, it’s worth taking a note of when you can register her - they are all different. There’s one in Hampstead where you get a two week window during which they’ll accept registrations. Another school will only assess the first 70 children registered so their list closes early.

My dd was the same at 2/3 couldn't sit still for the whole 3 minutes of circle time at nursery and they kept dropping hints about her being full of beans which made me wonder if they thought she had adhd but around 5 and school she settled down a lot no problems with concentration span.

She's at a private school now but the emphasis is just as much on sport etc as it is academics, in fact that was one of the main reasons i sent her there thinking that she would need all the sport as she was so active!
