Hampton/Twickenham Preps

Hi,

Was hoping for some recent experience of the prep schools around Hampton/Twickenham. It would be for a boy and girl that are a year apart. It seems like the single sex schools like The Mall & Hampton for boy and Jack & Jill for girls are maybe slightly better than the mixed schools like Newland House for academic children looking to go to Hampton and LEH? I’m basing this on some older threads on mumsnet so happy to be corrected on this if incorrect.

OP, you are probably over thinking this, they are all exceptional prep schools, go with the option that best fits with your family. LEH can spot a dd that they know will fit whether it's 7+ or 11+, it won't matter whether the dd has been to J&J or NH or a state school with some prep at home.

Thanks. That’s a fair point. I just want to get good value for money. I went to a mediocre private school myself and although I ended up being one of the few students who ended up doing ok I think for the money my parents spent there were probably much better schools that I could have gone to.

The state schools in the BRUT are very good, if you look at the stats for LEH & Hampton at 11 +entry you will see the proportion from state is high but if you choose the prep route you have a more enriched curriculum & 7 or 11 plus preparation at school & the prep head to guide you through the process.
For easy of family life I would keep them at the same school.

Yes that’s the one factor that’s swinging me towards Newland House, the convenience of having them in the same school. I would love to have some views about Newland House from parents who have recently had children there

Good evening @Jadefeather7
I’ve had two boys go through Jack and Jill nursery (which we LOVED) and at 4 they both left to join the Mall in reception. I honestly cannot talk higher of the school. I’m a huge fan of single sex education having had two very different boys that have both been catered to brilliantly. One was very sensitive when he started and has flourished through drama / singing lessons / swim squad. The other is the opposite and is probably too confident and very sporty and he’s also been encouraged to reach his potentials and not told to conform or sit quietly but given a trumpet / pushed harder in studies etc. It is an academic school but if you join from reception it’s like stealth learning - they cover so much in class (class sizes are small) with very little homework. They also spend lots of the timetable playing games / PE lessons / swimming / music / art and DT / drama etc. which I love. The after school clubs are fantastic too with specialist clubs offering judo / basketball / tennis / coding / cookery / mtech etc on site. Feel free to DM me any questions :)

@Tw1mum thank you! Great to know you are so
happy with The Mall. I think ideally I would like to be able to send my son to The Mall or Hampton and my daughter to Jack &Jill however my dilemma is really whether to send them to Newland House simply for the convenience of having them at the same school.
Were there many boys at Jack & Jill when your boys were attending?

Evening @Jadefeather7 in the nursery when they joined from 2-4yrs I’d say it’s 50/50 boys and girls. Then about half of the girls stay on (the others go to state/other private’s) and the boys also scatter between state and private. The two schools have strong links (they swim at our school for example) and lots of the boys at school have sisters still at J&J.
