Borough Boundaries

Wonder if anyone can help me, I live in Borough A, but on the boundary with Borough B. I understand if I wanted I could apply to schools in both as distance wise it would be ok.
My question however is the schools I loathe are in Borough B, is there any risk I could get a place at one if its not on my list and I dont live in the borough?
My understanding is Borough A must offer me a school place, is that correct?

Would be interested to know because I'm also on a borough boundary but think it depends on distance still.

Catchment wise, I'm in more catchments for the other borough than the one I actually live in - which actually works out better for us because the schools are better.

So I understand you can be considered for a borough that isnt yours- I just hope they cant impose one of me.

I’m not sure how y7 admissions work but I once worked in a borough that placed in-year admissions out of borough. That was because they genuinely couldn’t squeeze any more kids in locally as schools had gone over numbers already and there really weren’t any spaces.

Are there any undersubscribed schools in your own borough that could be lesser evil? Or you could try boroughs further away if there’s a bus/train.

As you live in borough A, you should apply for schools through Borough A, which can be for specific schools in Borough B. Borough A passes on the information to Borough B, who will then confirm with Borough A whether they can offer a place in the school you preferred.
It is for Borough A to inform you about the school place offered which could be one of your preferences for either borough A or borough B. If none of your preferences can be offered then it is for Borough A to have to legally offer you a school place, which would normally be in Borough A but it is possible that they could come to an agreement with Borough B to offer a place somewhere in Borough B if they are desperately short of places.

Admission's answer still applies even if you haven't applied to any Borough B schools. Have you got a banker school on your list? It might be better to get a nearby Borough B school you loathe than a Borough A school you also loathe which is on the other side of the borough from where you live - and realistically, Borough A will fill up its own vacant places before coming to an agreement with Borough B.

Are all the school in your borough oversubscribed?

So all the schools near us in both boroughs are over subscribed. Those that aren’t over subscribed in our borough are in a different area too far away- 30min drive plus. Out of the 4 closest in our borough: 2 we would have got into on distance last year, 1 we wouldn’t have and 1 just says religious ...I’ll make sure i max the 6 application spaces.

Where I live you can apply in neighbouring boroughs if they are close to you. Can you view catchment maps as that should give you an idea of where they take children from.

I’ve checked the distance acceptances- we do fall within the boundaries of a school in borough B I don’t want!

Sounder like you have 2 realistic choices. The other borough won’t be taking your child against your will as they’re full up anyway. Objectively speaking, you’re in a good position.
