Depends on the size of the school usually.
£45-100k as a guide.

YuletideFairy · 21/12/2019 07:58

Where I live it depends on the role of the school. Normally between £55k and £75k approx.

Depends on size of school. There are incremental pints within the grade for the school. This is down to the Governors to determine. It also depends on where the school is. There are four areas of which three relate to London and it’s environs. The TES has details about pay scales but you need to know the size of the school. Many standard primaries are Group 2,3 or 4.

That includes secondary HTs though mrsz. I’m wondering about primary.

In maintained schools there is a range of salaries depending on the number of kids in the school. I think academies have more freedom to set their own salaries.

icklekid · 21/12/2019 08:46

Primary and secondary heads are paid on same pay scale but more children means secondary normally paid more as larger schools!

Barbaraanne22 · 21/12/2019 09:00

Current headships are advertised here and you can cross check what the actual salary is here

Birthdaycakeandicecream · 21/12/2019 10:15

I know ickle that’s why I asked about primary schools.

Ours was advertised as 65k. Apparently it’s quite a low salary for a headship.

Norestformrz · 21/12/2019 10:23

There are primary schools in England with more than a thousand pupils.

Birthdaycakeandicecream · 21/12/2019 10:24

Well yes, and there are women who are taller than men. In general though, primaries are smaller than secondaries and women are shorter than men.

Why do you want to know? Is it part of your career plans or do you want to know about your kids’ school or something? If you do a job search on the TES you might be able to work out a range.

No just being nosy Xmas Grin

Without knowing the specifics the best anyone can provide is the range of salaries.

cabbageking · 21/12/2019 14:44

Go on Dfe for a comparison of schools in specific locations or size of school to get the average wage for that school as compared nationally

cabbageking · 21/12/2019 14:54

Sorry realised you said Head teacher.
Maintained have a group size banding ranging from £41065 to £114060 with 25% on top with evidence. This are last year figures

bigbubbles · 22/12/2019 00:24

It is very hard to appoint heads and so in most areas of the country the salaries are at the top of the group range or out of range.

Very few earn over £85,000, even as Executive Heads/Primary CEOs. .

So a single form entry primary- group 2- so up to £66,517
2 form group 3 up to £71590
3 form entry group 4 (quite unusual) up to £77,048

They seem to be paid less in Scotland.

BubblesBuddy · 02/01/2020 12:49

London, fringes of London and hard to recruit places pay more and have different pay scales. London pay is a lot more due to housing costs.

Sexequality · 02/01/2020 17:51

Hard to recruit in Scotland too

Norestformrz · 02/01/2020 18:47

Scotland has a different pay structure

Sexequality · 02/01/2020 19:17

Yes, they seem to be paid less.

HomeMadeMadness · 05/01/2020 16:57

Wow that was interesting I assumed they'd be paid a lot more.
