Is my daughter reaching ARE for phonics?

DD, aged 6 in year 1 has never been particularly taken by reading unlike older DS, so I sometimes think she is not doing well when I compare them. DD is currently reading a blue band 4 Collins Big Cat Phonics for Letters and Sounds book. She can read most of the words, but there are a couple she struggles with therefore I conclude from that it is the correct band for her current ability. However, is this where she should be for her age?

Yes I think blue is fine for the start of year 1 so you'd probably be hoping she went up a level in the spring, but nothing to worry about at this point.

Blue is about what they aim for for the start of year 1.

Why not ask her teacher how she's doing ? They will be able to tell you the progress she has made this year so far, how likely she is to pass the phonics screening and whether she is at ARE.

I will get reassurance from her teacher, but useful to get people’s thoughts on here

I think levels 1-3 are generally reception, 4-6 Y1. Often though kids will make slow progress then suddenly get it and go through loads of levels in a short space of time.
