The School Run - KS2 SATs programme. Worth it?

Just that really.

My ds (yr 6) is “As Expected” in all subjects and I feel we should do more with him to try and make sure he passes. At the moment we have a bit of a scatter-gun approach and I’m keen to try something a bit more structured.

Has anyone tried this? Is it worth the money?

If he's 'As Expected' then it's job done. Why would you put him through extra work and go to financial expense to make the school get a better place in the performance statistics?

Well, I’m not sure how good he is in tests. And he’s keen to do more work as a lot of his class is way ahead of him.

I’m not looking to hot-house him, just help him along slightly.

Ask the school about some of the revision books? There are ones like CGP which might be worth looking at.

Ok. Thanks for the advice. Seems a sensible approach!

My advice is not to push him at all. The higher his SATs then the higher his targets at secondary school, which can put a lot of pressure on.
My son did surprisingly well in his SATs and is now not hitting his targets because they are stupidly high. He is doing well and progressing though, so I'm not worried.

We just bought some practice books that DD worked through in the Easter holidays. Whether they helped or not is hard to say as she got the results she was predicted. They do a lot in school as well in the run up. I would do some practice but not excessive. Some State schools (DDs does) stream as per SATS results, as a PP has said, if he’s over coached he might end up in a stream not right for him.

With a DD approaching GCSEs I would agree with those above who are saying don't push it. Otherwise you will spend 5 years chasing those targets. Maths and English will create the targets for everything else including things like dance and drama.

Thanks all. Good advice. As he’s on target for passing, I may just leave it unless he asks me for extra help in any area (although this is unlikely!) I’ll have a word with his teacher to see what she recommends.
