...my children don't do the creative school projects that are set for them by their teachers. We can't be bothered. They can't be bothered. I can't be bothered. So we don't do them.
We do all of the other homework they are set which I think is enough at primary school.
But when their project is set for them, I quietly squirrel the instruction sheet away in a 'safe place' and then we accidentally on purpose forget about it.
There. I've said it.

Yep, me too. And I am a primary school teacher.

I agree with you. My own children are old enough not to have had creative projects set for them, but I dreaded being asked, "Mum could you have 'H' on Saturday? He'll be OK as he's got his project to do, and I know you've got lots of stuff on Egyptians, Romans, Space........".

Wow, never thought they might be missing out?

HollyBollyBooBoo · 08/11/2019 19:16

I'm gutted our school doesn't give out creative projects! DD and I end up making stuff up just because it seems to engage her much more.

Houseworkavoider · 08/11/2019 19:19

I quite like them & so does DH.
I really have to rein him in with it though! He was so proud of his oregano grass for the Saxon fort and Easter bunny bonnet Grin
He can’t actually be arsed with spellings and all that though Hmm

SallyLovesCheese · 08/11/2019 19:25

I'm a primary teacher and dislike most homework full stop. So I don't blame you not doing some of it.

lovelyjubilly · 08/11/2019 19:26

Wow, never thought they might be missing out?
Nah, they have much more fun doing their own projects that they have chosen to do themselves.

I hate them, and one dd does as well. Luckily DH enjoys them and gets really into them, and so he and dd2 really go for it. And he makes dd1 feel less hopeless about the whole thing, and gives her some ideas.

Week that’s probably better then. If you’re still involving your Dc in creative stuff then they’re not really missing out.
My Dcs teachers encourage them to bring in stuff they’ve done at home as well as any sporting/music accomplishments. It’s nice for them to feel the praise!

What do you mean by a creative project? If it's model making, I'm with you all the way: far too much faff, and children learn nothing from sticking bits of cereal box together. If it's researching a topic, I definitely encourage it - I think it's a great way of learning.
