Scottish Primary reading levels

Hi,

Was wanting to see what reading levels your littles ones are at in Primary 2- Scottish schools.

My daughter is a fairly confident reader and since early primary one has read homework reading books with ease. We read regularly at home and she is able to read a Julia Donaldson book (room on broom for example) fairly well with help only needed to sound out some of the more complex words.

I am starting to query though why she is coming home with Oxford learning tree books at a level 1+-2 still and even getting repeat books of what she read last year? I've heard from another source that schools are now putting more emphasis on getting the basics grounded solidly and they don't move up levels like previous years however to have not moved up a level in a year seems really bizarre to me?

I am still deciding whether to approach her teacher for an explanation but don't want to come across as 'that' parent who has no faith in the system!

Love to hear others feedback! Thanks :0)

I’d approach the teacher and ask what she needs to work on to be moved up a level.

That way, if there is a reason for it, you can work on that with her at home.
And if it’s down to something like the teacher not having assessed her reading level recently, it might prompt the teacher to check her reading sooner rather than later.

Thanks, will get in touch but also find it strange as daughter says she is in top reading group in her P2/3 class apart from the p3's and she is P2 part of the class.
