Now it would seem theres a wrong shade of green too.

Not clothes but pens

I was informed by both dds this morning...

2 different schools
2 different pens

Both green

Both wrong...

Anyone miss the old " teacher just Marks in red days"?....

WTF? What a massive waste of everyone’s time!

SarahTancredi · 09/09/2019 12:27

All hail the holy grail of the correct green pen ConfusedHmmGrin

I'd be a right arse and ask for the composite CMYK values from the school office so I could procure the precise shade.

If they can't provide said values, there can't possibly be a 'wrong' shade of green!

I like that idea...

A couple of years ago we went on a wild goose chase for a compulsory red highlighter, which didn’t seem to exist. I finally found some on Amazon, so bought a box full to see him through.

Enquired why he wasn’t using them, to be told “no one could find any, so they’ve changed it to pink instead”...

BrigitsBigKnickers · 09/09/2019 13:11

Did they have to have a pink pen too? ( we used to have to call it "tickled pink" Hmm) Cerise or baby pink?

I have worked in two schools that did the green and pink pens the opposite way round. Marking work Was very confusing.

What a load of cock!

SarahTancredi · 09/09/2019 13:13

No they need a purple one though.

I await the verdict on that...

Purple here too and very hard to find! What is wrong with the colours widely available??

ThePhoenixRises · 09/09/2019 13:38

Something like this would work

12 Pack 6-in-1 Retractable Roller Ball Multicolor Pens, 6-Color Ballpoint Pen for Office School Supplies Students Children Gift www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B077GR8KS4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_jFKDDbST3X8S3?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

phoenix

Dd1 actually has one similar. Not those exact ones but one of the 4 push down colour switch pen things.

Green was too dark apparently ...

Dd2 I bought a multiple pack.of zebra pens which I thought was great cos dd1 could have the black and blue and dd2.could have the purple and green

It's too dark ? Hmm

Why the different colours for everyone?

Bic do a brilliant purple pen - I bought a pack of pale blue, purple and pink in Asda a while back.

SarahTancredi · 09/09/2019 13:51

Well dd1 writes in black or blue.

Dd2 doesn't have a pen license yet.

But they use purple pens for what they call "purple penning" in primary which I think.is basically editing. And the green is for when they swap work.over and mark someone elses work.

Clutterbugsmum · 09/09/2019 14:47

I'd tell the school until they provide the correct shade of green/purple they have deemed the right one, then my child will be using blue/black or pencil to do the 'corrections' as I am not wasting my time or money getting the one they want.

SarahTancredi · 09/09/2019 14:51

Oh dont worry I'm not replacing. I have provided what's been asked for if they want to query shades then as you can say they can sort it out .

It's not like I gave her a permanent marker

What rubbish this is! A complete waste of time!

When I used to compile reading lists for my students at Uni I had to ensure the library had sufficient copies for the numbers of students in the course and the price of the book was reasonable in case anyone wanted to buy it, all in an effort to help students out. I can't imagine dicking around with the 'right' shade of green pen!

SnuggyBuggy · 09/09/2019 15:22

In my day we were just told we could use any blue or black pen. Is there some wacky new pedagogical theory behind this or something?

SarahTancredi · 09/09/2019 15:55

Well I have a little bit of an update.

Apparently it has to be a lime green pen as it cant be the same shade as the teachers pen. So whether dds pen is suitable hinges on whether or not we both shoved the same pack.of pens in the basket in Tesco...

Explains why the purple pen was ok as given its the same brand of pen one would also question its suitability.

Doesnt explain dd1s pen being wrong though. I couldn't have picked the same pen as the teacher again could I?.what are the odds .

Soooooo glad that my kids went to school in Sweden where the school has to provide anything deemed necessary free of charge! (including school trips)

Funnily enough they got on fine with a blue pen and a pencil!

modgepodge · 10/09/2019 10:08

It’s to do with proving progress. When OFSTED/SLT look at the child’s book they can see:
dark green writing - child has been given feedback by teacher ✅
Purple pen - child has responded to said feedback and made visible progress ✅
Lime green pen - child has received peer feedback ✅

It’s all about proving progress has been made (rather than the child actually making progress).

Schools which I’ve worked in which have had similar (identical) policies have provided the correct coloured pens to the kids however!
