What type of school bag does your 7/8 yo boy have?

Never had to think about it before as they had to have bags with the school logo at their old school and I don't want them to be the odd ones out when they're starting at a new school Confused

My 7yo has a smiggle back pack with footballs on it. They’re quite pricey but dd’s is in to its 4th year now.

DS has chosen a Hype backpack for this year.

AudacityOfHope · 20/08/2019 20:58

Just a camouflage one from Tesco.

chipchipchoo · 20/08/2019 21:07

I've ordered a smiggle one for dd but all the designs aimed at the boys age were football or video games neither of which either of them are interested in.

I looked and hype and converse ones but I wasn't sure if they're still a bit young to appreciate the branded stuff?

A Cath Kidston one with a dark blue design of night animals, with reflective bits.
It doesn't look very CK. But he loves animals.

elQuintoConyo · 20/08/2019 21:18

A little blue and orange one from Decathlon. Children here have a mix of Decathlon, Spiderman, minecraft, disney... I don't know who/what smiggle is here in Spain.

DS ' backpack is heading into its 3rd year and is covered in badges and silly keyring and things he has found! He's just starting year 3 equivalent (I think, he's nearly 8yo).

Sports direct. Puma backpack.(kids size)
Argos also have a few that are a little smaller than the larger standard sizes
teens/adults.

drspouse · 20/08/2019 21:29

DS has this one (we did NOT pay this, it was in an outlet shop).
It's a good size for him and fun without being garish.

AudacityOfHope · 20/08/2019 21:35

TK Maxx is good for backpacks.

ZenNudist · 20/08/2019 21:36

My ds just has an addidas backpack from sports direct. He loves all that.

stayathomer · 20/08/2019 21:37

Got it for about 20 Euro, only criteria were the netting at the side for his flask to go in and a front pocket. Does the job!!!

reefedsail · 21/08/2019 07:10

DS has a black Vans one. He's not the only kid in the school who has the same one.

Greenteawhisky · 21/08/2019 07:13

Plain black one. I got it from a sports shop for about £15.

PantsyMcPantsface · 21/08/2019 07:55

It's out of stock at the moment but DD2 has this direct.asda.com/george/kids/accessories/pokemon-printed-rucksack/GEM622201,default,pd.html Pokemon one that gets envious comments off the boys in her big sister's class that are the age range you're looking at (was the one that I could find with a water bottle pocket in the side when I was looking is why she has it)

Otherwise - Smiggle central or whatever Tesco's had available depending on the family.

ihearttc · 21/08/2019 12:52

DS2 had a Smiggle one last year in Year 3 but has got a Champion one this year thanks to the influence of his 14 year old brother.

EduCated · 23/08/2019 10:30

Much like the advice for new Year 7 starters, could they use an old/very cheap one for the first few days so that you and they can scope out what everyone else has?

pikapikachu · 23/08/2019 15:42

Have you asked him what he likes? Hype isn't necessarily because of the brand- the patterns are eye catching so appeal to kids who like bright colours. Many will have their favourite character like Minecraft or Pokemon.

If he's not into bright colours then a sports logo backpack from Sports Direct or similar is "safe" and practical.

Just bought DS a Minecraft backpack from M&S, good size and plenty of pockets including drink holders.
