Hello
Had a look through the threads and only finding q’s from years back...

Moving back to Bristol and looking for a place that is suitable for Huey; bright, full of smiles and currently 3.5!

I gather the better schools are North West of the city, but I’ve not robbed any banks lately and can’t afford to live in Redland.

So the areas for homes I’m looking at are as follows:

Hanham
Stapleton
Downend
Possibly further into South Glos.

Or possibly Horfield, Ashley Down if I can find a suitable shell at a decent enough price.

I guess what I’m asking is for peoples experiences of schools in those areas.
I’m more concerned with happy diverse mix of kids over offsted rating. Plus, things change over time pretty quick it seems so looking for current experiences.

Many thanks! Smile

Kingswood is not great location wise but has a hidden gem of a primary school called Beacon Rise. No one mentions it on the Bristol / South Glos threads but it's a fantastic school. Gave my two a brilliant 7 years and they're continuing to fly in Year 10 at the local comprehensive.

We used to live in Downend - lovely place to raise a family and will definitely have house prices going up due to lots of families preferring to move there. I do agree that Kingswood isn’t the best of all areas. Schools wise, If you can get into the catchment area for Bromley Heath school (Downend), that would be fab. We were so sad to leave Bristol to move to the big smoke - I would have loved sending my son to Bromley Heath.

League table here:

1 Bishop Road Primary School
bank robbery or other source of significant wealth needed for area

2 St Teresa's Catholic Primary School
some naice homes & some really v un-naice nearby - not sure how big a deal the religious element would be for you

3 Elmlea Junior School
see re: school #1

4 Victoria Park Primary School
A decent area worth looking at. The nicest homes nearest the park look similar to Redland homes and are significantly cheaper. If they are still out of your price bracket there's plenty of even cheaper decent places that are nice enough and will be near enough to school to be in catchment

5 Greenfield E-Act Primary Academy
I would think of this as a pretty dodgy area. I am sure the school is doing a brilliant job but wouldn't choose to move to be near it

6 Henleaze Junior School
see re: school #1

7 St Ursula's E-ACT Academy
see re: school #1

8 St Bonaventure's Catholic Primary School
see re: school #1 and also religious question cf school #2

9 Stoke Bishop Church of England Primary School
A slightly more affordable area than some of the above, worth taking a look

10 Holymead Primary School
Again a not-too-unaffordable area, worth looking at

I think OP the problem is that the areas that you have mentioned don't count as Bristol for education purposes, they are all in South Gloucestershire. There are common admissions arrangements between the LEAs and if you live close enough you can list a Bristol school on the South Glos form (or vice-versa). You can have 3 preferences.
If you would prefer to actually live in Bristol, I would agree that Brislington is an affordable area. The best 2 primary schools are Holymead (this has 2 sites one for infants and one for Juniors which may be tricky if you have more dcs). The other really good option is West Town Lane Academy in Brislington. Has lovely grounds and outside space and is an all through primary school on one site and also a nursery there as well.
Hope that's helpful
