Anyone with a child at King Alfred’s School in Hampstead?

Anyone got a child at school there?

Considering moving my kids to it; although not on the waiting list yet so it may be impossible! (Year 1 and nursery currently.)

I’d like to know how big the classes are, and how good they are at looking after children’s emotional development. (My kid’s current state school, though an excellent school, appears to be hopeless at this.)

Anyone? Would love feedback!

I’m looking for a school that helps children grow into lovely people, not a hothouse school, which exists to get them ready for millions of exams!

There are quite a few threads on KA on here - at least two very recent. Should find them if you do a search on the school name.

I know some families with children there who are very happy with it, but no first-hand experience I'm afraid. It's quite "marmite" IME, but those who love it really love it.

As you say, it may be impossible anyway - the main intake is at 4 and from what I know of it, they choose the children not the other way round!

Thank you, Zinnia - I will look! I thought I’d read all the posts around on it already but may have missed some!

Yes wondering if it may not be possible anyway as we’re not on the waiting list! I haven’t even done a school tour yet - though will do the next (which is October, I think).

I found it and it’s a really helpful thread!

Would love to know if anyone has any info on how fast / slow waiting lists move?

And also how big the classes are etc?

I think it’s two classes of 20?

Thank you, MoverOfPaper! Is that big for private school? I’m not sure!

Me neither! You wouldn’t want much smaller though would you? Not enough of a pool of friends. 40 in a year seems fine. My dc are in a year of 30 and by the time they’ve got to Y6 they’ve had enough of each other!

Hello,
My name is Julia. I have read this post regarding your search for a school for your kids. I think I am in a very similar situation to yours when you did post this message (my older is in Y1 in a state outstanding-really competitive school and little one in the nursery). Did you end up in King's Alfred? I am currently searching for alternatives to current school and I would appreciate it if you can share with me your experience. I am a bit hopeless at the moment, I just want my children to be allowed to be children...

Its a great school for some children but it fails others. My daughter has been badly bullied and the school hasn't done anything about it. She is also very bright/ gifted and there is no provision for her. Those children which need more help- bright or those with SEN such as dyslexia are let down. The class sizes are too big 26 per class and some very disruptive children.
