Hi all, we are having to move to the UK for my husbands job in August. I am willing to move to any of the above cities based on the best school for my 9,7 and 4 years old kids. They will go to an independent school. I would truly appreciate any advise!!

Please dont try and drive daily from York to Scarbrough!
Focus on getting the right school nearer your husbands job.

You can always visit York (randall the other stunning places in that park of the world) at the weekends.

Thanks for your post. We are getting a relocation agent. I’m just trying to do the groundwork on my own. Last time we did an expat assignment I wish had done some homework first :)

Commuting from York to Scarborough daily would be a pain, but better than the whole family having to live in Scarborough.
Canadians will be used to driving in bad weather and many of them will be used to long comutes.
York is much more multi cultural with a broader range of people living there.

Disagree with this somewhat.
DC only get educated once.
If Bootham/Pocklington/York school happens to be the best fit then think DH should seriously consider York (area) to Scarborough commute.
Don't forget, as well, 'a happy wife makes for a happy home'!

According to the Gov site, the only Independent options (Secondary) near Scarborough are Scarborough School and Fyling Hall (Robins Hood Bay/Whitby).

Is this an indefinite move or just for a couple of years?

Maybe worth looking at state schools too since the children are still primary and there are some good ones around.

Hi there, I’m new to mumsnet, we are about to move to Yorkshire, probably East Riding, but we are confused between hull and York. The problem is we want a good primary school( with supportive and nice staff) for our son, but we don’t know anything about Hull and York. We want to search a good school and then we want to mortgage. Need advices plz.

There is a huge price difference and standard of living between hull and York.

Schools in Brough are great, new primary school in Brough is amazing.
