What sort of thing do you think moves a child into exceeding?

? Anything that is above the level descriptors.....

I guess it just means they’re ahead of where they are expected to be at that age?
DD (reception) is ‘exceeding’ across the board apart from ‘expressive art and design’. She is noticeably ahead of her peers in things like literacy and numeracy.

My DS was exceeding in all areas (he’s now year 1) he doesn’t seem wildly academically special.

I was told my DD was exceeding for everything except maths last parent’s evening. She really isn’t exceptional, just turned 5, on green books, seems age appropriate.

It seems they need to be attaining more than the goal statements to achieve exceeding, in my experience it hasn’t meant anything exceptional.

I used to be a reception teacher and am happy to help but I'm afraid I can't unless you're a bit more specific! There are 7 areas of learning and they are broken down into chunks so 17 in total. Which area do you mean?

Also in the early years curriculum there are descriptors which describe what a child working in exceeding can do for each area Smile

Even ‘exceeding’ itself will have a pretty wide range. DD is exceeding in reading and is on lime books. Her friend is exceeding and is on green books.
