Simple admissions question (I hope!)

It looks like we’ll be moving back to our house at the end of the school term from another country. My kids are currently in year 3, 1 and preschool. I’ve contacted my preferred primary school (the one we were at before we moved, rather than the one I think is ‘the best’!) and they currently have a place for my eldest but not my middle one, and of course are full for reception next year as things stand. Although we won’t physically move until after the end of term, we will take on the council tax from our tenant and apply for places in the last week of term, so I assume that my middle one will go on the waiting list for his year, and my youngest will join the reception waiting list for the autumn. And hopefully both will be at or near the top of the waiting lists because they are siblings. I’m not missing anything am I? My hope is that there is movement over the summer for the younger two.

Hi all. Just thought I’d update you as this thread was so helpful. I have managed to speak again to the borough admissions team and the admissions office at our preferred school, both of whom were brilliant.

In short, we have made a late eadmission submission for our Reception entrant, as a sibling, as instructed by the primary school. They have offered our eldest a place for the last week of term to make sure the others are where they need to be on waiting lists. Our middle is second on the waiting list for his year, after a child currently not in education, and there is already one other sibling at the top of the Reception waiting list, so position will come down to distance, but it’s likely she’ll be OK. The school admissions officer said she’d heard ‘rumblings’ about two children leaving year one this summer, so is hopeful all three will be able to attend the school in the autumn.
