Primary schools EALING and catchment areas

Hi,

My DC is a summer baby and I have just realised I need to apply to schools by this January coming!!
The problem is I am considering moving to Ealing (likely the haymills area), but haven’t bought a house yet or anything but now I’m panicking as I need to buy ASAP in order to be in the catchment area.

What are the best primary schools in Ealing? And would haymills be in their catchment areas?

I’ve heard good things about Christ the saviour and Montpelier?

Is it better to instead move near the Montpelier area as most of the schools are there?

and thinking ahead for secondary school what are the best ones?

Thanks in advance!

Most of London doesn't have catchment areas.

If one does, it will be very clear from the oversubscription criteria (which will be something like LAC, siblings in catchment, other catchment, other siblings, all others) and a map of the catchment should be published alongside other admissions information. It will be fairly unchanging (and there should be a consultation before any changes are made)

Living in the catchment does not however guarantee you a place. If there are more DC living within the catchment, you also have to live closer than other applicants. And for most of London schools, it is simply on distance like this.

The local council should publish the 'greatest distance offered' for all schools (or the school may do so itself). These are illustrative only, and can vary considerably between year groups (eg if there was an bulge class 2 or 3 years before your year, or if there is new housing, the admissions footprint can shrink; conversely if another local school expands, then it might grow.

That data is based in offers on National Offers Day. There is considerable churn of pupils in London and families move in and out all the time. So places from waiting lists can be from considerably further away that initial round offers.

Montpelier is considered one of the best, but it is VERY small by London standards (1 year group so 30 children). There is no catchment area and I think most reception children get in on the siblings criteria (of course that will vary from year to year). That area is quite nice with a few other options so worth exploring if you have the budget. Northfields also has some good schools to consider.

I just had a look where haymills is and if correct, you won't have a realistic chance to get in Montpelier living in that area.

The Twyford Trust now has four secondary school in Ealing.

You will not get into Christ the saviour unless you have regular church attendance (at any denomination) for a couple of years. It is a good school though!

I think you would be in the catchment for West Acton primary.
