My son -sen/ehcp etc was excluded for the majority of year one. Managed a term doing an hour a day. Was permanently excluded at the beginning of year 2.
I’ve applied to 15 schools (12 mainstream, 3 special) all have said he can’t go.
He’s due to start year 5 in September. I’ve moved over a hundred miles to a different county to try and get him into school.
Local authority here are now providing ten hours of private tutor a week who says he’s at pre-school to reception level.
I don’t want him to start school in year 5 prays he will actually go to school at some point and be so far behind, he fights me on everything and getting him to do school work at home is difficult.
Is there anything I can do to help him?

Thanks shiny, from his second day in preschool I was told he wouldn’t cope at mainstream but my previous local authority were insistent despite school reports, senco, ed psych all saying he needs special school. Moved counties and it’s promising that they’re looking at ss.
I will call tomorrow, thank you .

Have you looked at all the schools and decided which one you think best meets needs? (Not which one the LEA think!)

We were in a similar position and lea kept saying we needed to look over an hour away at EBD schools when there was an autism specialist school 2 miles away which our autistic child could do well at. It was full therefore we had to look elsewhere. We just kept going on and on saying that was the school we wanted and never wavered. The LEA can admit to a full school, they just have to resource it. After a while they gave up pushing us elsewhere and found a place for him.

While you wait for a school, it may be worth contacting the local home education groups. There are probably quite a few families with SEN and there would be educational activities you can take part in with him. There is also a national SEN home education group on Facebook that you can join and ask for advice on things to do while you wait for your place at school.

Where are you based? I know someone who may be able to support/ advocate for you depending on your location
