So, we are moving to this area in a few months time from 400 miles away! I’m looking for advice on areas to live between Frimley and Guildford taking into account decent schools. Particularly ones with a Christian ethos if there were any. Our budget is around 500k. Houses are coming up in Frimley Green, Farnborough, ash vale, Mytchett, Jacobs well. I just need some tips from someone local! Thanks in advance 😊

Farnborough Hill!

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 22/05/2019 06:01

Sorry - just noticed you want primary! Yately Manor. Is your child a boy or a girl?

We live in Farnborough and I'm hoping to do North Farnborough infants and St Peters then Farnborough Hill for secondary.

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 22/05/2019 06:04

St Peters is a lovely Church (attached to the schools I just mentioned) really welcoming. We started attending when we moved to the area and since I had a baby it's been a fantastic way to get to know lots of people.

Also, I'd strongly avoid Ash in favour of Frimley Green, Mychett or Farnborough.

I've got a few friends who live in Frimley Green who like it - if we hadn't found our house in Farnborough we'd have gone for FG. We opted for here because it's only a 15 minute walk to Farnborough Main which has fast trains into london. Farnborough gets not such good press sometimes but i find its perfect in terms of price and accessibility. You do have to accept town centre is a bit grotty!

Wow, thanks for your messages. I’ll have a look at those schools. I’ve got two boys and a girl. Only my eldest boy is currently primary school age. I’ve seen houses in Frimley Green that I liked, would they be in Farnborough hill catchment for secondary schools?
Do you know anything about the primary schools in frimley green?

Rydes Hill in Guildford (where I went) is a gorgeous small, all girls prep. It's just a delight.

When they're older, steer clear of St Catherine's in Bramley. I know a few friends who were pushed to breakdowns/eating disorders while there.

If you want a state secondary I'd want to be in the catchment for Tomlinscote - that's Frimley

Mar2018 · 22/05/2019 08:33

Yes I think it will be a state school that we’d be heading for.
So frimley is definitely an option, we’d be going to Guildford a fair bit too is that easy by roads? Is there anywhere more central between the two that you’d recommend? I think really price wise we’d be better off staying near frimley but half way (time wise) between the two would be good?

Frimley C of E Primary
Ravenscote
Sandringham Infants
The Grove

There’s another whose name escapes me. I’ll have a look

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 22/05/2019 15:32

Lakeside!

Redpostbox · 22/05/2019 16:18

Would Alton be too far for you?
St Lawrence C of E Primary School is such a lovely primary and both the secondary schools in Alton are very good.

Try Ottershaw Park, (Stay away from Ottershaw villege)
Chobham
Virginia Water
Walton on Thames

Being in the catchment of a decent secondary is probably more important in that area than primary to be honest.
Secondaries there range from being great e.g. Tomlinscote to being less desirable. Some like Tomlinscote have always been good, others tend to bounce in and out.
If you are catholic then look at being nearer Farnham for Polycarps and then All Hallows’ for secondary, (south of Guildford) or north Guildford and one of the feeders for St Peter’s.
If not, then I would work out which secondary catchment you want to be in and then look for a primary. If you need a primary place now, then I would ring Surrey admissions and find out where there are places as some of the schools in that area are very oversubscribed.

GU24Mum · 02/11/2019 15:38

When you say Christian ethos, do you mean RC or CofE or something different? The catholic state secondaries tend to be more oversubscribed than the CofE ones and as a PP has said, it's sensible to think about secondaries and work back. There are lots of good primaries so that's less of an issue.
