we pestered the school for ds's year 3 test reuslts as we've not had a good year with his teachers (lots of negative comments etc etc). He struggles to concentrate but seems outwardly egenrally brightish.

His year 2 stas were 2a for reading and 2b, 2b for writing and numberacy...so we were happy with those. Anyway at the end of eyar 3 he's only achived 3c in reading, and 2a, 2a in the other two - which means he's below the national average.
We also asked for a copy of the year 2 sats so we could compare progress. Anyhow we have found the reuslt we were give last year (ie 2a, 2b and 2b) BUT the school have now given us a completely different set of year 2 results (2b,2b and 2c). I'm concerned that they've changed these results to make it look like he's imporved more than he actually has. Anyway - it all looks v confusing to me.....

As a paranoid parent I worry that he now won't catch up at all and under achieve all the way down the line through senior school too. Perhpas he just had a bad day - I guess that these year 3 sats are simply on one day's tests rather than teacher assessed like the year 2 ones.

just wanted to update everyone with a positive start to year 4 fro my ds - dh talked to his new teacher about the ab apalling year he had last year and that his confidence was at an all time low and that he had v bad auditory memory problems

  • she agreed that he was the worst she'd seen for this and had been shouting at him daily for forgetting things...as his last teacher hadn't passed on his assessment report about this so she had no idea.

He came home beaming today ( a very big deal for my ds!) becuase his teacher had said how well he was doing and that he's been getting lots of housepoints and praise -

It really deosn't take that much to boost the confidence of children at school - crossed fingers for the rest of the year.

My S has just started yr3. My sister who is a teacher has said that I may find a dip in this year (meaning may not do too well). She said she don't know why but for some reason this sems to happen in year 3. So don't worry just yet. It could mean that he will suddenly develope. It looks like he may just do that.

Fingers crossed for you and your son virgo.

In many ways he sounds very similar to my DS who is one of the youngest in year 2. I have suspisions about weak auditory memory or processing. I was told out of the blue last term that he needed lots of support at school and get his ears tested! At home he's a bright little boy who's into everything and always inventing things.
