Finding a good school in cubitt town with children with allergies

Hi everyone.

I recently moved to crossharbor and have a 3 year old. I originally applied to cubitt town for a nursery place but realised they didn't offer the 30 hour childcare (working parent)

I then had to send him to Arnhem wharf which is further away but took him on 30 hours. I had some minor concerns with his allergies at the beginning but it was resolved by talking with the teacher (milk jug didn't have a picture on it so my son wouldn't have been aware if it was milk or water)

Since then he loved the school and I have been pleased with it

Now I need to apply for reception place and cubitt town is much more local to me and thinking about changing him to there.

For a mother who has a child with allergies it's very important we send our child to a safe good school . Any thoughts on this? Cubitt town or Arnhem wharf? Any advice would be appreciated.

I’m not familiar with the area you live in but all schools are allergy aware and should be able to manage your child’s allergies. There’ll be plenty of other allergic children!

If the further away school is too far, then you may not get a place anyway - have you looked at historical admissions data? Are you in catchment for both?

Hi thank you for your replies. I'm still confused which school to send to. Arnhem wharf is further away (still in the catchment area) and they said they still have places available. He is comfortable at Arnhem wharf

Local one is cubitt town which he has got a secured place for reception ... with a second baby coming along this summer I'm just cautious about school runs and thinking to have locality as priority....

But with allergies it's scary sending Child to a new school. I understand schools are much more aware and cautious but it's just hard to start over ...

Cubitt Town is a fantastic school. I've heard lots of great things about it and even had the pleasure of visiting there.

Schools are obliged to keep children with allergies safe so once you make them aware of this then they should put the correct procedures into place. Go on a visit to the school and ask them what they do for children with allergies. You can explain what his current school have already done.

I can imagine the allergies are terrifying. I would make an appointment with both school to discuss the allergies specifically. Go with a list of questions about how they manage allergies (you could ask about specific situations e.g. lunch, snacks, birthday cakes etc). This should help to reassure you.

I've had appointments with both schools and gave scenario questions and they both pretty much had the same answers..

I think I will keep my application with Cubitt town and hopefully he will be fine once he settles in. However as a working parent, it is annoying they don't offer 30 hours nursery places as I will have to send my second child to another nursery and transition them to reception to cubitt town.

Thank you all for your input.

@AnnieCat84

Just curious what kind of things you head about the school? And I recently heard when they transition from infant school to junior school they mix up the students classes. I don't know how I feel about this..
