Primary school admission/Appeal

Hello,

Would like some advice on:
DS did not get into preferred school. Instead has been offered a place at a school which is approx 40 mins away by car.
The school is lovely. But DS would be the only ethnic minority in the school. This bothers us a lot. The short term and long term consequences are enormous.. The arguments (in our household) against this setting have outweighed the arguments for (namely learning how to “behave around white people” - I don’t even like that argument, but a friend who works in the City mentioned it)

Additionally we may not have a second car come September and DH requires his car for his commute.

What do I do?
And are these basis for an appeal?

@moonrises - OP isn't necessarily 20/30 miles away - in the town I live in, if you lived 10 minutes from one edge of the town, it could easily then take another 30 minutes to get to a school on the other side, by whichever route you took.

That’s true, the OP cited traffic as a reason why it was 40 mins away. She may need to investigate cycle routes if she is giving up her car. She might find it is a LOT quicker by bike if the traffic is all that bad.

Moonrise, Outstanding Ofsteds are of no value as they are usually years out of date. I wouldn't take an Outstanding Ofsted as worth anything.

red - Sorry I was trying to imply that it may not be as great as the previous Ofsted said.

As for the traffic - I forget sometimes that I live in a relatively non busy area. I am grumpy enough if my 21mile commute takes me 40 minutes. Grin
