prep school entry into year 4

Hi,
My DS attends a local state primary school in Feltham. He is a very happy little boy with lots of enthusiasm and creative brain. But, he is a very reluctant reader and academically doing "OK". He plays football in the school (not for any club) and learns guitar at school.

I am not quite happy with his current school since the school's performance has dropped quite drastically in recent years and now, it is high time to think about changing my DS to any Independent school. We know that private schools are quite expensive, but he is our only kid.

We are looking for a good private school near Twickenham / Hampton / Whitton areas. I am hoping to commute to the school on a daily basis by car as we own a house in Feltham. I am looking to get an entry this sep 2019 into Year 4.
Can anybody recommend good primary schools please?

Hampton Boys prep (but maybe not the right fit-I believe its very academic) could be worth a visit.

You need to call around and see where there's spaces. It's not a normal entry window at this time of year. Doesn't matter how good the school is if there's no spaces. When making the decision do factor in the "extras" bill, that fees will increase way above inflation etc. It may be better to wait until year 6 entry which is a common admission time otherwise

Extras really depend on what DC wants to do. Music tuition, sports coaching and trips can add up. Not to mention all those birthday parties where presents are required!

Ski trips might be £1000. Music £20-£25 a session. SEN or reading catch up might be charged extra too. It would depend how behind he is.

Also primary schools have different cohorts year on year. They are not all equally bright! Results are not necessarily a good indication of how good teaching is. I would look at progress and your DS’s progress. Also Private schools don’t have a magic formula re reading. You will still end up doing loads at home and way more homework too.
