Good Primary schools in Glasgow

Hi I have a son who is 5years old and will star school soon . He is on spectrum and im desperately looking for great schools in Glasgow which would help him in his progress. I want a school which would help him if he is lacking behind and track his achievements. I dont want him to be left out . I'm not looking for a special school but a mainstream school good enough to give him help if needed 1:1 at times. I have asked schools and they said they have support but I'm looking for some experience any of you gone through or heard of good things with regards to this. Many thanks Smile

What area of Glasgow do you live in?

It is unrealistic to expect you’ll get a place at any school in the city. Even your catchment school may be full.

How old is your DS?

All schools have the responsibility to make sure your son achieves his potential. However, no school is going to be able to promise you a 1-1 classroom assistant. The assistants are allocated to the school and the headteacher will decide which child they support.

My DS is 5year old and will be starting school this August. We know we are a bit late to change place for schools . We had given a placement request in other school (we were not in catchment)which got rejected. what are the chances of moving right now to the catchment area for that school and getting admission?

Glendale Primary has an excellent reputation as does Garnetbank (name? - near the dental school). They're both good at looking at individual needs because of the number of foreign languages spoken at both schools - but don't know what they're like with kids on the spectrum.

Having said that, I was just talking today with a friend and he was waxing lyrical about the support for autistic kids in South Lanarkshire schools. His son is in P1 and quite far along the spectrum. Might be something to consider if you could move?
