Hi dears,

Thank you for your great collaboration to my other topic : www.mumsnet.com/Talk/primary/3545103-Where-to-live-in-London-Hampstead-Richmond-or-Greenwich-for-kids?watched=1&msgid=85919994#85919994

In line with your valuable replies, we decided to relocate to Greenwich/Blackheath now.. Currently our focus is to find the best state primary school for my daughter (to be joined to reception class next year) and find the best matching area to live as well which offers good rental 2-bed flats on a good and lively street, close to the nature and not so far from public transportation. Looking forward to hear your comments please..

Thank you in advance and thanks again for your previous help to identify the borough where we would like to live..

Additionally, we prefer a rental no more than 1750 gbp and we care about lively area which is both close to main streets (or on main street) and park(s).

One more comment, we prefer to be in the part of Greenwich Borough, not Lewisham

OP you have a lot of requirements - maybe you would do better to visit the area and have a look around?

Assume this is for starting school in 2020?

Blackheath has lots of great primary schools: John Ball (in Lewisham borough - why does this worry you?), Brooklands, Wingfield (on the up with new buildings) and Greenwich has Halstowe and James Wolfe.

The whole area is pretty green - and your budget will get you a decent rental I think? You just need to live v close to the more sought after schools to get in.

Sorry - rental wise I just had a quick look (literally 2 minutes OP) and your budget is going to be an issue for you I think.

Have you considered nKidbrooke (stop before Blackheath - still close to the village and ona direct line to London bridge which has Wingfield Primary school

or somewhere on the Greenwich peninsula where there are lots of flats and Millenium Primary - on the jubilee line into town - on the river with lots of amenities but further from Greenwich centre.

You just need to google this one out - to get a realistic idea of what you can afford.

Hi dears, I can think of up to 1900 gbp for rentals if it really worth..
My daughter is going to reception class this year (2019) and I know year-in application will be a potential issue. I need to know the availability of reception classes in those schools which I don't know how since the boroughs replies with general explanations.

The reason I don't think Lewisham borough is indeed the distance from the Greenwich and only one option for travel. If you think it is not a big issue, then I am open any further suggestions for sure.

As I can see Meridian Primary seems a good school and very matching where we would like to live. What do you think ?

You do realise that half of Blackheath is in Lewisham Borough?

Don't know much about Meridian - it has a 'Good' grading and not 'Outstanding'. Location wise you're ok for Cutty Sark DLR or Westcombe Park train station. and not too far from Greenwich Park.

BUT - there is no way any borough can give you more than general information about in year applications? They have no way of predicting how likely you are to get a place at Meridian. The only useful indicator would be to see whether the school is generally oversubscribed - but even that won't tell you whether it would be full in the particular year you apply.

I am going to visit that area for sure while I first came to London.
However I don't know why but it seems very hard to find the most posh area to live in blackheath. Which street is most lively and close to train ?

Hi OP

So the area that meridian is in, is a good area.

You should be able to find old style Victorian houses for rent or you head to the river more there are new build. You probably want to stay on the same side of meridian school if that makes sense? So don't look across the other side of Trafalgar road unless you can find something in park row.

Meridian is a good friendly school. It's grounds are often used as a music school for trinity on weekends. It is a short walk to the maritime museum, cutty sark, river and Greenwich market and central greenwich.
Otherwise you may want to try more Westcombe Park way of town or even Greenwich peninsula.

In terms of poshest areas in Blackheath, you are talking about the Cator estate. Go for a walk around the Cator estate and you will see what I mean.

Also West Greenwich is posh and has some big houses.

But east greenwich (smaller houses) is still a good place to live. Just mind that you are not too close to a busy road and check pollution levels.

Old wooolich road would be a good road to look for a rental to get into Meridian.

Good community and generally safe.

Meridian is a good school and there are good schools nearby too at a primary level.
It has a small outdoor playground and is a traditional Victorian building.

At meridian you can:

Catch a river boat to the city at London Bridge or beyond
Walk to he DLR
Walk to Maze Hill or Greenwich station
Walk or catch a bus to North Greenwich station.

So it is excellent for Public transport.

Good luck!
