Could anyone please explain report marks to me for Year 4?

Have just looked at a handout from our school with the national 'expectation' levels.
They range from 1C to 5, with c being the lowest in each category and a being the highest.
for a year 4 child in our school the expected level is 4C (schools vary as some are disadvantaged, ours is in an affluent area with all children speaking English as a first language - in disadvantaged areas the expectation would be lower.)

Level 4 is the level the gov expect all Y6s to reach in their SATs, obv bright children will do better by end of Y6. Level 4 at end of Y4 is good - roughly you can expect a child to go up half a level a year - so on target for level 5 at end of Y6. Well done your DD!

My ds1 is a yr4 and at level 4b for literacy & maths. We were told by teacher that this was very good. I don't think it corresponds to years. As batgirl said a level 4 is what all yr6s should achieve.
