Are scooters locked up at your primary school?

The PTA committee at our primary school is debating whether to buy scooter racks. If your school has them, do kids actually lock up their scooters to the racks?

If you really want to help us, the following answers would be great.

At pick-up time:

  1. How many spaces on the scooter racks at your school?
  2. How many scooters are there?
  3. How many of those scooters are locked to the racks?

Thanks for your help,

Rob

We have scooter pegs. Kids don't lock them, but they public can't get at them.

The primary school I drop off at has a little fenced off corner of the playground with bike racks and scooter racks, not sure exactly how many - I don't think it's ever locked up. It's usually about a third full with scooters and a couple of bikes. The scooters are not usually locked up, I lock up the kids bikes because they are expensive ones but I've never seen anyone else use a lock.

Our scooters are just left in the bike racks. Our neighbouring school has a long scooter rack, very well used. I don't think people lock them but they are inside the school gates which are kept locked during the school day and overnight.

Thanks all that's really helpful information. Smile

Same as PP - we have scooter racks (to keep them tidy) but they aren't locked. However the school gates are locked except at pick-up and drop-off so it would be unlikely that anyone could get in.

Ours are overflowing with scooters since a high proportion of children scoot to school regularly - so if you're late the scooter is likely to be propped up near a rack rather than actually in a rack.

We have scooter racks with about 30 places (the racks were paid for by the PTA)-it’s completely up to parents as to whether they lock scooters or not and we have made that clear- it is their responsibility if they leave a scooter.

We have a mixture of bike / scooter racks some lock some don't. Maybe 80 - 100 scooters and 40ish bikes (Maybe more in summer). It's a fairly large primary and most live fairly close.

Same as everyone else really. A secluded corner of the playground has bike and scooter racks and is usually pretty full. No locks, just pegs but the school gates are always locked and there is another set of gates for the playground so unlikely anyone can get in.

I remember seeing the scooter racks when we were shown round. I do think they are a nice encouragement for walking/scooting.

We have scooter racks in the playground of the infant school I work at.
.
It's up to parents and children if they lock scooters and bikes up. None seem too.
Children know not to mess with them at playtime.

Playground is locked during the school day but unlocked/unmanned at pick up and drop off.

We've never actually had any go missing, or had an issues from what I know.

We have scooter racks inside the school grounds. Not locked but in the locked school gates. There is holes if they want to bring their own padlocks. Most of the children that walk with parents are on scooters, there's rarely bikes.

Our school has bike racks and children also prop up their scooters there. The school gates are locked and no one ever locks up their bike or scooter. In the 8 years I have worked there, we've never had one go missing.
