Proof of address for admissions?

Evening all, we have had a message from our LA that we need to send proof of address for a reception place application (application sent in December before deadline including council tax ref). Its not a problem as we live one street from the school but wondered if this is normal for primary school? Does it signal the first choice is over subcribed? Thanks

schools also need to check that the child lives with you at that address, usually child benefit or tax credit award will do

I work in a primary school and we ask for passport of parents, passport or birth certificate of child and also a utility bill as proof of address as standard

Thanks for the info :) I am a teacher but have only ever checked birth certs to check correct DOB so guess admissions dept. are in charge of checking the address proof here.

Our LA asks for this from every applicant for all schools. We had to provide the NHS medical card, with date issued prior to application. That was a real shock, as I'd lost it. We then had to jump through several other hoops of non standard address proofs instead.

This is the standard for our LA...you need to submit proof of address as part of your application.

Yes normal in our LEA. Just due diligence I think. Schools being oversubscribed is also normal!
