Labelling Uniform

Hi all,

Could anyone advise which long-lasting labels are best for school uniform? Stickers, iron on or stitch on fabric?

We've been using a fabric pen but it fades or looks like a smudged mess after washing regularly!

Sharpie's all day long.

Hamsternauts · 28/02/2019 19:58

The pilot laundry tech pens last really well. (I don't wash above 40 degrees but do use stain remover but they still last)

Hamsternauts · 28/02/2019 19:59

Also they've got a fine point so don't smudge

I use sew in labels because they don’t fall off and because my child can recognise the label easily without having to look too hard or even read it.

Alwayspinkshoes · 28/02/2019 20:01

I use stamptastic - no sewing or ironing needed. My daughter only started in September but I haven’t had to re-stamp at all yet.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 28/02/2019 20:04

We have a stamptastic and the white pen they do. Haven't received stamped since August

Ciwirocks · 28/02/2019 20:44

I agree with a sharpie, quick and easy and doesn’t fade. I am interested in the stamps for next year though

Tiny me labels are cute and easy to recognise for infants. They really do stay put on clothes labels and water bottles, inside shoes etc. Follow them on FB and every day they have a free sheet of stickers starting with a different letter. I got two free sheets of 30 stickers this way.

MyDcAreMarvel · 28/02/2019 20:48

Stikins are the best I have found.

Holidayshopping · 28/02/2019 20:48

Stikins are superb.

As a Reception teacher, they are one of the few things are are still going strong on drink bottles, lunchboxes and clothing by the end of July!

I've used these for ages, they last incredibly well. I sometimes have trouble removing the stickers if I'm passing clothes on. They stay well in shoes and on wellies too.

danni0509 · 28/02/2019 21:01

We got some great stickers from

You can wash them at 60 degrees or lower and they genuinely don't come off. We designed my ds' and they look really smart.

Can be used on lunch bags, drinks bottles, shoes, school bags etc..

AssassinatedBeauty · 28/02/2019 21:05

Stikins or MyNameTags. I've stuck them on water bottles that have been dishwashed a million times and are still fine. Same with clothes, shoes etc. The MyNameTags ones can have a little picture on, and come in multicolours. Makes it easy to spot which one is their jumper or whatever.

FrenchyQ · 28/02/2019 21:09

Always use stikins

xyzandabc · 28/02/2019 21:09

I've always used stickins.

Eldest is 12 now, Year 7, and I bought her labels when she started reception aged 4. I had no idea how many I needed so got loads. We're just about getting to the last sheet of them now. So that's 8 years they've lasted and they're still sticky.

DC3 who is 5 years younger is still wearing uniform that belonged to the eldest and still has her name in so they last in clothes too.

palomapear · 28/02/2019 21:19

Sharpies.
Pointless buying anything special

IWantMyHatBack · 28/02/2019 21:26

I meant MyNameTags, not easy2name

Sharpie is OK for some things, but stick of labels that can go on lunchboxes, wellies, toys, etc. So useful.
Particularly handy for young ones starting school, much easier to recognise a colorful label with a panda or dinosaur or bear or something, among all the other stuff in preschool or reception.

WhatNow40 · 28/02/2019 21:49

I use stamptastic and attach a tag. They're ace! I have very weak hands, can't sew because of it or iron in stuff. These are perfect for me.

WhatNow40 · 28/02/2019 21:51

Worth saying stamptastic is probably most cost effective and environmentally friendly vs stickers etc.

Korvalscat · 28/02/2019 22:42

Another vote for Stikins. I sewed labels for Nursery, used an iron on dyplo name labeller in Reception and Stikins for Year 1. It is going to be Stikins from now on.

Also thanks for this thread, it made remember to label dc's brand new school shoes - 12.5 at 5.5, he'll be wearing the boxes by yr 6 at this rate

BackforGood · 28/02/2019 22:51

Sew in.
I speak as the veteran of 3 (now adult) dc who have not only been through all the stages of school, but hundreds and hundreds of nights away with Scouts over the years.

HexagonalBattenburg · 01/03/2019 08:07

Sew in - but I sharpie underneath the sewn in labels now before sewing in after some bastard nicked one of DD2's jumpers, cut the label out, used the jumper for a year and then put it back in lost property so it made its way back to us. I was more pissed off because I fucking hate sewing in name labels and they'd cut that out than at the loss of a £3 Tesco jumper to be honest!

Stickins for things like lunchboxes and waterbottles etc as well.
