King's School, Gloucester

I'm looking for any information on The King's School in Gloucester. We are considering it for my daughter who begins Reception in September. Is it considered a good school? What is its ethos? Class sizes? We will be new to the area (coming from the US), arriving in August with not much time to look around at schools. But we have registration paperwork and tours setup at a few, including this one. We don't know anyone in the area to give recommendations so any insight would be helpful.

This might not be helpful but i grew up in the area so have an historic opinion/general opinion from friends still in gloucs.

I think it's pretty good, kids always seem very confident and went to good unis, very good academically and lots of history with the cathedral which is nice
There were pupils who took the 11+ and went to pates/denmark/stroud/ribston and also a significant intake at y7 of kids who didn't get a grammar school place.

Saying that though if i still lived in the area i would put up with the commute and drive to cheltenham ladies' which is world renowned.

I know a few people who have children there and they all seem quite happy with it. My ds is at different private school in Cheltenham, are you looking at any of the Cheltenham schools?

@missyB1 We are considering St Edwards in Cheltenham, too. Can you recommend any other good ones in Cheltenham?

Dean Close is a great school especially for very sporty kids. My ds thrived in the pre prep there (goes up to age 7). He’s now in the prep (7 - 13) which is fine, especially for very sporty kids. But we are moving him to St Edwards next year as it’s a smaller environment which will suit his personality better.
A lot depends on the age of the child and their personality and likes/ dislikes. There are lots of American children at Dean Close and St Edwards.

My children were at Kings but we moved them to Dean Close and frankly there’s no comparison. Dean Close has fantastic pastoral care and outstanding facilities. I could not recommend Kings.

Have a look at dean's close, Cheltenham college and Richard pate too.

Kings has the best reputation in Gloucester, but the Cheltenham schools are in a while other league. I would definitely go for Dean Close and know a number of parents with children there who are all very happy.

In case anyone ever finds this threads when searching info, we ended up choosing King's. We are so very happy with the school and my daughter is thriving. The cheltenham schools are nice, definitely. But there was a warmth to the care at King's that really drew us in, and the setting with the cathedral is incredible. Very pleased with our decision.
